fanex report

I'm back from fanexpo, finally. It was an annoying four hours on the train and bus because of delays and I had to drag all my stuff by myself. But I'm alive and home and have much unpacking and laundry and cleaning of the house to do.

I saw lots of people, waved at everyone I actually recognized and could see thru my blurry contacts. Finding Geo in the artist alley was awesome, so have to catch up with her more. Ferdinand gave me more anime to watch! He's so awesome, and he even had a steampunk costume on! I had a really cute group in my den at the masq, they helped me go thru six bags of gummie bears and it was a lot of sugar induced fun. ^^

The interview thing on sat went ok. Me and mel were so barely coherent getting up at 6 to put all our gear on and then Garth couldn't meet us at union so we had to carry everything, including his costume with us the entire morning. He didn't get there until one and then didn't even want his costume.

The photoshoots on sat morning were awesome and made getting up early worth it, Kevin actually got some outdoor shots with good lighting before we died of the heat. It would have to be the hottest day of the entire month that we ended up wearing our crazy layered costumes. Amandas shoot was a bit rushed and we were tired and flash blind by then, but I'm hoping she got some cool artsy stuff going. She played with the lighting a little more than Kevin but I think I still like his style better.

I really hate having to choose between wearing a costume and taking pictures of other costumes, but Mel needed me to wear that blasted chinese robe again to match her. Luckily I got some good shots of her on her own too.

After photoshoots we finally found Garth and got into the reg line, and stayed there a good two hours before giving up since we'd only made it half way and it was 330. A lot of people took our pics when we were just standing in line and I did get one fan running up to me and glomping. Thankfully my costume is built well enough to take it. After we left the reg area we met Nicole and made her into a hot blond elf chick from WOW using a wig and headband I brought. She didn't keep the wig on for the masq like she planned because she didn't like the long hair when she was trying to do her sword work.

Me and Mel decided that we couldn't stand our layers anymore and just totally striped them all off right in the middle of the hall. Some fans whistled when they saw the kind of boots D was wearing under all those robes, the black outfit I had on underneath was a fair bit sexier than the traditional outer layers. ^^

I had my black velvet D robe with me but Mel just gave up and did the jeans and t-shirt thing. We went out for food at Caseys with Nicole and her friends and by the time we got back it was time to do greenroom stuff. The next five or so hours of my night was just being parked in there watching peoples stuff, and keeping everyone hydrated and organized.

I wasn't planning on going to the con at all on sunday, but I went anyways because Garth didn't have to work in the afternoon after all and I got a free pass for volunteering at the masq so I thought one spin around the dealers room wouldn't kill me.

I missed Specters steampunk shoot because I didn't bring a costume for it. We'll have to do something later in the fall when we get our stuff done. I was thinking about a shoot in highpark in early october.

I also had some more stuff to do with the nice interview people. I felt totally dead by the time we finally met up. I don't think I'll want to watch any of their finished show. Anyone in my cosplay group knows what a clueless zombie I am by the end of a day of being bound, putting up with D nails, and blurry contact lenses in that horrible echoing headache inducing fanexpo hall. People kept standing on my cloak too and poor Q-chan was squished in my bag. His poor wittle ears! I wish Mel wasn't working on the last day, her cuteness usually makes up for my spaceyness.

Oh, and the dealers room had no pandas!!! Not one! If I had paid for my pass I would feel very cheated! Garth was nice enough to buy me an art projector that was on sale for half off. I owe him a new painting now. I haven't made him one in a year or so, it is about time. And now that I have a projector my celtic boarders can be enlarged onto a canvas in half the time. ^^
