Bah. Well, persistence helps. My friend got rejected for a Google job out of college, went to grad school, and only a year later got a Google internship for the summer.
Google sucks anyway. Not a company where I'd like to work. So consider yourself lucky: you just got an opportunity to find a decent job.
This sort of reminds me how I applied to work in Transmeta - 3 times! The first time, I was in Moscow (it was right at the time when Linus joined). I worked with Dave Ditzel, maybe I should've written him. Two other times were when I was at H-1B. Then, they collapsed and turned into suing-for-patent outfit.
