I've had a good couple of weeks really. Last Saturday John and I went to rally school, which basically involved taking Mark II Escorts sideways on gravel a lot. By sideways, I mean looking through your side windows to steer. I ended up facing the wrong way a few times, which I took as proof that I was properly committed. I didn't, however, reshape the car or concuss my instructor...unlike someone I could mention.

When we got back, we took Izzy over the field to see the sheep. She really loved them, and ran around the field in her little pink tutu shouting "hello! Shit!" We're working on her enunciation.

Then on the Sunday we took Iz to West Midlands Safari Park, which was really good. I recommend it as a day out. She really loved it, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that she can name nearly all the "manmals", and were stunned when out of the blue she came out with a perfectly enunciated "amazon" in the appropriate area. Bizarre, as we'd never said that to her before or heard her try to say it. As ever, I loved the lemurs and wanted to take one home with us. As ever, I wasn't allowed.

This weekend was also good. Friday night I went into Digbeth to see Blyth Power and Eastfield. The support band Alcohol Licks were really rather good, and reminded me of all the things I love about punk gigs. However, the sound deteriorated after that, and the place was so rammed that I felt quite uncomfortable. Blyth Power should have been good, given that they played a good set, but the sound engineer couldn't seem to get his head around the drummer being the frontman, and therefore there just wasn't enough volume on Joseph's vocals. And there was far too much keyboard, both audibly and physically - the stage was so small that it took up most of it, so no-one could move around. Not good, but I'm sure they'll be great again next time. Eastfield weren't nearly as good as they used to be, so I didn't make it all the way through their set before trunding off home. Still, I would like to go back to seeing more live punk.

Yesterday was beautifully sunny, and we bowled down to the Cotswolds to meet up with Tony and Sian for a sunny pub lunch. Most pleasant. Sitting in the sun with yummy food, drink and good company really was the way to spend the day. Hurrah.

Then in the evening I got the itch to go out. Fortunatelly Sandra tapped me on Facebook and talked me into going to Zombie Club in Digbeth, which turned out to be rather good - although the only person I knew there was her. I hadn't seen her in years, so it was nice to catch up. And I got chatted up, which is a bit of a turn up for the books, as well as being good for the ego. I felt a bit silly telling him that I didn't want a drink when I was waiting at the bar to be served, but I daresay it got the message through.

Then today I slept in very very late (a feature of not going to sleep until 4am and having a lovely understanding husband, methinks). After lunch we took Izzy to the Easter Barn at Becketts Farm. It has lots of cute baby animals. My favourite was the huddle of seven or eight tiny bunny rabbits, but Iz was most fascinated by the calves. We fed a little lamb its bottle of milk, and saw some tiny chicks starting to peck their way out of their shells. Very lovely, and something I would recommend to all those animal lovers around here (or the parents thereof). We may well take Iz back again before it's gone, as it's free.

Then we went into the Sima Warehouse and got some things on sticks for Izzy's bit of the garden - y'know, flappy dragonflies and bejewelled flowers that blow round in the breeze. That kind of tat. She loved it, so we came home and put it in her bit of garden; at which point she decided that it was time to discover dirt, and I spent about half an hour or so having soil rubbed into my knees and shins whilst she exclaimed "dirt! dirt!" Bless.

The weather has been so lovely, and it's been a real pleasure to eat outside. I love the sunshine, and this last couple of days has been like some of the best summer days I've seen in this country. I even managed to get slightly burnt on Saturday, which just about never happens! The garden's looking quite nice (if in need of a few more plants in the beds) and the flowers are coming out. The blossom is now in full swing, which has led us to notice that we suddenly have a new tree in our back garden. Probably a cherry tree. That'd be good. I await the fruit eagerly.

So, in short, all is good.
