i've been monitoring out in some miserable town in the dead, and often stinky, stretch between tucson and phoenix.  i arrive this morning and the superintendent,  Kirk, says "did you see my puppies in the bed of my truck?"  omg, puppies ( Read more... )

If its one thing that drives me batty it is people who don't take care of their animals. I understand your sentiment!

Remember that giant, black puppy who followed me home that time? I still feel guilty because we couldn't keep him around. Big, black dogs don't make it out of the pound often. He was such a nice dog. I would have kept him myself if I could.

i wonder what the rates are for adoption of different types of dogs. but yea...i think people mostly go for the puppies, not bigger dogs.

sometimes i think i should be a vet and save crazy amounts of money and open shop on the res a couple days a week. do some work for cheap or free, round up animals and spay and neuter them and try to find them homes on or off the res.

Carlos is so lucky to have you. i hate that sentiment that "you can't save 'em all" but sometimes it seems true :( Seeing domesticated animals suffer from human neglect is horrible. We've bred them to be dependent and then don't take care of them. It doesn't make sense. I used to have dreams of going to the pound and taking all the animals and giving them a home on a big ranch somewhere. This was before I realized how many pounds there are and how many animals are waiting in line to fill them up. :( People should listen to Bob Barker...at least the spaying and neutering your animals bit.

But I say again, Carlos is sooo lucky you found her (or she found you?) :D Give her some hugs for me too!

Yeah, I agree with all of it. I want to save puppies. Oh, and I'll also make a connection to Miriam and kids. She doesn't want to have them ONLY because she thinks she'll be a terrible parent. I know her personality ticks and why she thinks that, but I also know Miriam and know a bunch of other people who have actually become parents, and just from that, I would choose Miriam over many of them any day of the week. And also, that whole thing of her not being a parent versus adopting... the kids are going to have such a bad experience in homes that it would be so much better for her to take them ( ... )

miriam would actually make a decent mom. she'd raise some loud kids though, cuz you'd have to speak up in that house lest your needs get drowned out.
i'm not sure that treats are gonna do a whole lot. it seems that focusing on the dog i have and being like "bitches, spay and neuter your animals!" is a better thing, although promoting spay/neuter doesn't really give anyone the warm fuzzies.

well, I'm just saying, if I was in prison, I think I'd be happier with a piece of tiramisu then without. Maybe you can start something like they had at the U of R where they'd capture the feral kitties, spay/neuter 'em and then let them back out once their stitches were healed. In fact, when I work on a reservation, I will start up a program like that, and I'll call the project "The Eliz Whore... Uhhh... Neuter and Spay Campaign."

Good title, no?
