“Heads up!”
Through some miracle of physics, Gerard flailed his hands around spastically and managed to catch the apple just before it hit his nose. Frank did a golf clap, which Gerard ignored in favor of being hugely impressed with himself. The apple was still warm from hanging in the autumn sun, dappled red and gold, surface more uneven and rough than the fruit he saw in the grocery store.

Part Four This art completely and utterly blew me away. It's like
arabel reached in my head and pulled out the image that was there and brought it to life. The way the light falls, the branch that overhangs the top of the scene, the angles of the tombstones, the motion of the apple and Frank's hand in mid-throw -- I'm totally fucking undone, seriously. I couldn't love this more, except then I DO, because there's Frank's eyebrows and the way he looks so fucking smug and fond at the same time, and the perfect Frank slouch he's in. And GERARD! His panicked hands! His awkward KNEES! I CAN BARELY STAND IT.
This is just such an amazing, wonderful piece of artwork, and I have no idea how I got so lucky. It reminds me a lot of the illustrations in one of my favorite books, Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell -- the treatment of light, how it's so haunting (ha ha) and evocative of a single moment. I just... I cannot thank you enough,
arabel, this seriously will be something that brings me joy and delight for pretty much ever.
And she was awesome enough to share a WIP sketch, which I think is just SO COOL, not least because you can see the graveyard, and how the picture developed. I just adore looking at it... it actually sort of works with the story, you know? The feeling of something coming into view, fuzzy at first and then distinct.
Awesome, right?
Anyway, please, shower her with love! *goes back to mooning over picture again*
