I started a sweater, Berkshire Dolman, and quite stupidly did not read the entire pattern. So, I CO the back, knit the ribbing, got very close to where I thought I should start shaping for the armscye and then, finally, read the pattern and went, "Eh ( Read more... )

So, you're looking for another jumper pattern that has a neckline you like better, with a similar number of stitches on the back portion, to use instead of the neckline in the Berkshire Dolman?

I'm on Ravelry (an awesome resource which you should totally consider joining if you aren't already there) and did a search for cowl neck sweater patterns, and a good lot of them looked fairly similar. How is the neck shaped? I'd say your best bet is to just make the neck wider but otherwise follow the instructions. A wider neck will make the collar collapse into a cowl a bit better, but save yourself a hell of a lot of heartache.

I didn't realize that the Berkshire Dolman was, well, a dolman, and it didn't have regular i.e. set-in sleeves. I'd planned on making the sleeves full length, which will require me knowing how many more stitches will need to be CO to reach my wrists, not elbows. So, thought I, I don't want to waste the knitting already done. Maybe I can find another sweater using the same yarn/needle combination that has a) set-in sleeves, b)a cowl neckline (which is what attracted me to this pattern in the first place), and c) has the same amount of stitches for the back ( ... )
