Can't a single girl take a vacation???

I want to go on a vacation. I will finish my MA in the spring, and damn it, I deserve a vacation! I've been looking for all-inclusive type packages, and everything is based on double occupancy. I don't want double occupancy! I want to peace and quiet and calm...and a room to myself. Apparently, that is not allowed...unless I want to pay double the ( Read more... )

Hmm, not sure about all-inclusive packages and I live in a winter climate so I have no idea about sunny beach destinations, but have you thought about staying at hostels? They're really inexpensive and based on single occupancy since they usually figure you're travelling solo.

Hostels? That is waaaaay to close to camping for me. And there are no spas on site! ;) Yep, I'm being a snob.

Actually, it's a good idea, especially for Europe. I'm in Arizona, though, so I'm thinking maybe Mexico or islands. (Since I can't take a long vacation, I figure most of my time would be used up in travel if I went to Europe.) And I really want to stay somewhere nice. I never go on vacation so I think 2-3 days of not having to make my own bed would be nice.

There's got to be a book about this, right? If not, someone should write it. (The only websites I've found re: travelling solo are for group tours...and that kind of defeats the purpose of the ALONE aspect!)

I used to vacation by myself all the time. I loved it. My favorite beach destination was the Big Island--which doesn't have that many stellar beaches, in fact, but which is beautiful and not that expensive, relatively speaking. My room was right on the water.

In order to get around the "double occupancy" thing, have you checked out renting a condo? A lot of them have housekeeping services, so you get the not-making-the-bed part, but it does mean that you either cook for yourself or find a restaurant.

Thanks for the suggestions! Is renting a condo cheaper than a hotel room?
