While running away from the people who had trapped her, Asylum fell into step with a handful of inmates who also had unnatural abilities. Having nowhere else to turn to, the group worked to inconspicuously move as far away from their current town as they could. They took up residence in a new city, miles away from where they came. The group, in order to avoid being suspected and caught in this new environment, learned to disguise their abilities to blend in. They created new identities for themselves, most of them pretending to be either related to each other or pretending to be close friends in an attempt to lower suspicion. Asylum, however, had a difficult time learning how to blend in with her mindsight, as she would still often see things as different from how they actually were. In order to hide this, instead of allowing people to know she could see, she learned how to fake blindness.

They spent a year like this, moving often to keep themselves from getting too close to people who would possibly find out about their secret. However, as they moved, they occasionally stumbled upon others who were also being hunted for their abilities. The group, overcome by sympathy when thinking back to what they had faced before they escaped, slowly started allowing others to join them during their travels.

… Bzzt, big mistake. While they were careful only to extend invitation to those who they were sure were different, someone untrustworthy slipped through: Lothaire, a person working to capture those who were trying to avoid it by faking having powers to bait those who really did. He stuck with them for several months, working to earn their trust before turning them in to the owners of the nearest asylum.

Spending nearly a year and a half being forced to blend into society has caused Asylum to mature considerably. While she still has her occasional moments of confusion, she’s lost most of her shyness and is now more comfortable with interacting with others. Being betrayed by someone in her group, though, left quite a mark. While before she had no issues looking up to everyone around her, she’s now much more selective about the type of people she puts her trust in. However, she’s… still not a very good judge of character, and this can lead to either putting her trust in those who seem convincing long enough, or being overly cautious of those who honestly aren’t that bad.

Asylum still tends to go with the flow, following along with what other people say or do. Now, this is rarely because she feels incapable of her own decisions, but because she found it’s a safer way to blend in. It’s become habit after following a constant pattern of keep quiet, agree with what the other person says, and pray they don’t grow suspicious.

She is also less stubborn about her mindsight. While she still wants to believe that what she’s seeing is reality, she’s been forced to acknowledge the fact that sometimes it really isn’t. Having to pretend to be blind was even more of a slap in the face. Begrudgingly, she’s finally learned to accept the fact - though accepting it does not mean she’s comfortable with it. Knowing that she could be seeing things “wrong” without realizing it has made her paranoid about what is or isn’t real. However, she’s learned somewhat how to cope with it thanks to her time pretending how to be blind, focusing more on her other senses rather than her mindsight to acknowledge her surroundings.
