Hormones vs. EmulationmaiquetiaFebruary 26 2008, 22:06:31 UTC
I wonder if teenage hockey players have a propensity for violence because of the hormones or are the emulating what they see glorified in the NHL? Maybe both? The game has changed quite a bit over the years, hasn't it? Maybe not so much the fighting, but the players (NHL) themselves are bigger, stronger and more powerful than ever and can deliver some devastating hits, often dangerous ones. Also, the Western culture seems to endorse violence more than ever and kids seem to have become de-sensitized. You would know better than me, being directly involved. I just play in a non-contact women's league, so hitting/fighting isn't even part of our game. Thoughts?

I think it's a combination of hormones and some emulation with the catalyst from the coach. Some coaches want a hitting team when their players don't skate well enough to hit legally. This ends up in penalties which inflames the coach whose only advice is "HIT EM." Interestingly one team singled out the one girl and two guys piled on her after the whistle and she shrugged them off and came up swinging. Sad I had to toss her but thats the rule. I wish you a fun season and have to admit your icon makes me swallow twice when I look.
Seven in a day? I can see why your feet hurt. The same thing happened to me when I was training/facilitating. If I had three classes, each of two to three hour durations, the soles of my feet ached by the night time.
