An evening of artists...

Today was a pretty good day. Well, except for the entire eight hours spent at work. Oh, and the part about having to leave my apartment at 8:40 this morning.

After work I walked across the river (I still refuse to take the Green line shuttle from Lechmere) and went down to angeltear's senior show. I got some free food, saw some some cool graphic design, and then headed across the street to BU's Bookstore (actually a huge Barnes & Noble) and tried to get into an over-packed room where Orson Scott Card was speaking. He did about an hour of question and answer, and then signed books.

I had been concerned, given his religious beliefs, that he might be overly evangelical, but he was anything but. He was also very patient and spoke a lot about the craft of writing. It was rather inspiring. While I was there I ran into exhausted_smile. She wanted to hang around after the book signing (about an hour worth) to speak with Mr. Card, so I stayed around to keep her company while she waited. She and I ended up walking him to his car (while the patient B&N employees were waiting to close their store down) while he answered some of her questions about writing. Every now and then during the conversation I had to remind myself "This guy wrote Ender's Game!"

[Offtopic: I must say that this song is one of the more haunting covers I have ever heard. I almost never use the word "haunting" to describe anything, but it is by far the most fitting adjective for this song.]
