Ok so if u read this and it involves you it does, if it doesnt ...it doesn't
And so it is, just like you said it would be… We all joke about the UC and how it would make a good reality TV show because it’s full of drama. We all say we hate drama, but what would Union be without it. While I don’t want to go as far as saying we thrive on the drama in our lives I will say, we all have a little bit of Allister in us. This summer has been no different in terms of amount of drama; however in my opinion we all are trying to act like we aren’t as involved as the next person. We all like to thank our shit don’t stank.
So I am feeling very Jerry Maguire right now, with my mission statement and all. Despite my best efforts I am going to voice my opinion and get fully involved. I have been trying to take the stance “unless it directly affects me I am not getting involved.” But then again haven’t we all? Now some of you may not dig this letter, and some of you will, frankly to quote the modern day philosopher Richard Arnold- “I don’t even give a care.” As a whole our friends are saying, “I don’t judge I don’t care I never ever get involved.” But we all do from time to time. Furthermore whether we like to admit it or not a few friends are being made into scapegoats.
I look at some current drama and I get the feeling of dejavu. While I hate to name names I am going to, because it’s the best way to explain my point. And while this may seem a bit generalized and over simplified, I will stand by the statement I am about to make. All our drama is the same. Whether its; Brian saying, Jimmy and Rachel will end badly; or me saying, the idea of Justin and Allie bothers me; or Laura saying ,the idea of Rachel and Justin bothers me; it all is the same. Furthermore; Brian kissing Sloan isn’t much different than me kissing Vicky, and while on the subject neither of those situations are much different than Laura kissing Justin and Kyle in the same night. Sure feelings were hurt, but we all have had our feelings hurt before and we all will again. All our drama is the same. Sloan not being able to “handle” Rich or Allison or me sometimes isn’t much different than me not being able to handle Bryan Glynn sometimes or Brian, or Laura saying she can’t handle Brandyberry, or Rachel and Diana not being able to handle each other. I am sure some of our friends can’t handle me sometimes? You all have gotten to a point where my ADD and energy just isn’t cute anymore, its fucking annoying, I know this. Just because one of us says something doesn’t mean that many of us don’t think similar thoughts about other friends, or about you. It’s all pretty much the same. We all get on each others nerves from time to time, but we all also have fun together.
I know this isn’t going to solve world hunger and it probably won’t even solve anything, but I hope it gives some perspective. While we all like to think we don’t get involved, we do in some way (yes even you Rich). Despite our own rationale and narcissism, our drama is all generally the same. Whether you want to own up or not you have all been involved some how, we all have said something about someone to someone else, we all have gossiped, and we all have gotten sick of someone. There is this book this guy wrote called He’s Just Not That Into You, I don’t know what it’s about really but I do know that some chick wrote a response book called Lets be Serious You Weren’t That Into Him Either, this seems relevant because He was talking shit about you, But lets be serious you were talking shit about him. Despite the drama and teen angst (some of us are 20) we all hang out based upon the notion that we have fun together. I think we should just drop the drama and have fun. Don’t take offense to what’s being said because the person is probably half joking. Our friends are brutally honest and we cross lines daily but we usually are at least half joking and the other half that isn’t? Well lets be serious you were thinking it too, or you have or will think a very similar thought at some point in time. I am not suggesting that we shouldn’t ever be angry or upset, that’s in human and frankly I don’t know how Rich does it, but I think we could all just relax and get over things. We all are going to be going back to our respective schools and campuses in a few weeks, and we all swear there isn’t this much drama there. Frankly there may not be, but there’s a reason why we all call this place home. We are a family of sorts and to skip the mushy shit, we are all a lot closer than most groups of friends. Maybe that’s our problem, maybe that’s our charm.
So take a cue from Spitalfield and kill the drama. Whoever you are pissed at or annoyed with I say just drop it for now or get it off your chest and move on. All our drama is the same. We all love and hate one another equally and for every annoying quality we all have a few good ones too. Honestly there aren’t enough weeks left together for us to be mad about who says what and whose kissing who. I promise there will be drama for next summer and maybe even some at winter break. We all should keep trying to work towards not giving a care a little more, but until then let’s just have fun doing nothing and everything. We will all go back to school soon and in a few months miss each other and none of this will matter. I’m sorry if this seems gay to you guys or whatever but it’s my best attempt. I am done typing and you’re done reading.
