Under the City of Angels

Angel and I make our ways down to the sewers of Los Angeles. I've brought my crossbow, several stakes, a cross, some holy water, as well as a loaded pistol, just in case. I step gingerly over the largest puddles. "What are we hunting today Angel?" I ask curiously. Though truly it doesn't matter, I'm up for anything. While the research, the ( Read more... )

"Shhh," I tell him, hearing a noise not to far away. It's hard to hear anything over his heartbeat, though. Never knew he liked patrolling so much. I whisper, "Listen."

I move stealthily along the wall, nearing the corner. I look back to Wes and motion him closer. As he nears, I look at him questioningly to see if he can hear what I hear yet. He can't. I grab him by the shoulder and crowd him next to me.

What is that noise? "Demons?" I whisper my suspicion into Wes's ear. I think it might be demons fighting each other.

I sniff the air and pick up a subtle scent. But it's not demon blood. I relax slightly. "It's demons, alright," I whisper with a note of amusement. "They're mating."

I nod silently and lean closer to whisper quietly in Angel's ear. "What should we do, should we wait them out? Are they very dangerous?" I try to slow my breathing, I'm concerned the demons may have as good hearing as Angel does, and will find us. I have my hands pressed up against his chest, he is pushing me hard into the wall and I'm having a little trouble drawing full breaths. His own chest is quiet and still, no loud whooshing pulse to betray him, no ragged breathing against my ear. I envy his stealth, his ability as a predator to easily claim what he wants. I am fully aware that he could kill me at anytime, with almost no effort, but I trust Angel more then anyone else I ever have in my life. His goodness and humanitarianism seems to know no bounds. I'm proud to be by his side.

"Can't tell," I whisper back. "Could be dangerous to interupt them. They could think we are, you know, rival mates." I glance at Wes's face through the darkness. He seems nervous. I wonder if this is his first time encountering demon sex. I guess that means I should take the lead. "Get your hand on your weapon, Wes. I'm going in."

I cock my gun, it seems the best way to go. Stakes won't be useful in this situation. I stay tight up against Angel, ready to protect, fight, die, whatever is required. I put my hand on his shoulder to stop him a minute and put my mouth up to his ear to speak, hoping we still have the element of surprise on our side. "They aren't going to try to...mate with us, are they? I'm not sure I relish being pushed on all fours while a demon has its way with me, at least not in a sewer." God, I can barely see a thing with the flashlight off. I'll have to keep track of Angel or risk being lost. I take his hand in the dark and run it over the head of my weapon so he knows what I plan to use during this encounter. "I was wondering if I should shoot my load of bullets first, ask questions later?"
