This is EXACTLY the kind of fic I've been waiting for ever since I walked out of TDKR, and you have not disappointed with this opening chapter! Oh man, I'm so happy right now. I love how you've situated Blake as the new Batman - all the details are plausible and the poor guy knows he has some enormous shoes to fill, especially in Gordon's eyes. (The way he refers to Bruce as his Batman! Perfect.)

The sightings of Bruce Wayne and/or his ghost are simultaneously hysterical (gotta love the Gotham City rumor mill) and intriguing. Looking forward to more!

Wonderful beginning! You've pointed out the differences in Bruce and John (Dick in my mind, heh heh) quite nicely. That's the way it is in the comics, too: when Dick had to be Batman temporarily, he could do the menacing Bat routine but there were differences as that sunny child-turned-man can't help but be less grim.

The concept of Bruce's ghost being seen around Gotham is brilliant!

I liked the touch of the genuine tributes to Bruce in the beginning before the phonies sent theirs.

Your first Bat-fic? Bravo! :)

God, this is a PERFECT start. I can't wait to see more of this. I especially love how you mention that Bruce-as-Batman used to call the Commissioner 'Jim'. (You know, I actually can't remember offhand if he ever did that in the Nolanverse, but I love it anyway. To me it was just another sign of how much Batman felt for Gordon.) I can tell this is going to be a great series; looking forward to the next bit!

Aww, that's lovely. I adore Blake's uncertainty and Gordon's mentorship of him, and the fact that Lucius is carrying on with support. Your writing is great, too. It was a pleasure to read.

And I second schnuggleme: I really need a fic like this after TDKR. I'm looking forward to read the next chapters!

Thanks very much. Blake's task is daunting enough, poor guy, and Bruce is a hard act to follow; he'd definitely needs all the support Gordon and Lucius can give him.

And I'd like to take this opportunity to say how much I'm enjoying Separation of States. I've not got around to leaving a comment yet (I'm in the middle of moving flats and Net access is a little sketchy), but I'm loving every minute of it. Really looking forward to the next update!
