Tomorrow's trip to the Transplant Hospital

I am supposed to be down in San Antonio on Wednesday morning to see the surgeons, and I am finding it hard to see the point. This visit is not going to affect my standing on the transplant list. When I was cleared for transplant in early 2006, 95% of the tests done had to be done off site because they could NOT do them. The ONLY tong they could do ( Read more... )

I know it's a PITA, but something tells me you should do this, and it's a good thing.
I do think having the Docs down there able to put a face to the name is helpful. I don't want to get your hopes up, but the fact that you've been having more interactions with the docs down there is also a good thing.

A guy the DH used to work with needed a liver transplant and they made him go through similar hoops shortly before his surgery. They didn't tell him he'd been bumped up the list. (Again, not trying to get your hopes up.)
He made it sound like a bunch of hoops, some trips back & forth, then THE phone call.
Last Summer He also told us that they do more transplant surgeries in San Antonio than they do in Austin.

And now I'm trying to not get overly excited for you, because I also really want this to work out for you. :-)

There's a big difference between liver and kidney transplants - there is no dialysis type treatment for liver failure, so when someone is finally listed for a liver, it means the need is more immediate. I've met people who've been on dialysis for 20 some years. Not gonna see someone with liver damage that severe for that long.

And they did this to me when I was cleared, and then I heard nothing for a long time.
