I had the dry run yesterday (literally)

Yesterday afternoon, shortly before rush hour, I got a call from the transplant hospital. "Be on alert' they said. A little later I got the 'come down' call. They wanted to know how long it would take, and I said 4 hours - time to throw a few things in a bag and fight rush hour traffic across town. Did they by any chance also give you ephedrine with the Benadryl? It's frequently used in allergic reactions that are closing the airways, and it's pretty good at triggering panic attacks or giving the symptoms thereof. And of course, having one's throat close up is a fairly good reason for a panic attack, too.

I'm sorry you couldn't manage the transplant; I do hope the next call comes very soon. {{{hugs}}}

I don't think I was given anything other than benadryl and Ativan. (Oh, and albuterol) It wasn't mentioned at all.

Albuterol has a stimulant effect- rapid heartbeat, tremor, raising of blood pressure. So your panic attack probably wasn't so much psychological as physical.

Just did catch up and read this.
Choosing to not have the transplant because you felt like you were in panic mode was probably a wise decision.
I am sorry you had to go through all that.
