Three Broomsticks - Monday Evening addie_blackwood July 15 2008, 19:06:28 UTC
Her boss, Alton of Alton's Oasis, had thought that because the death of the woman in the paper that shared the same last name with Addie meant something to the young woman. It didn't. But she still took the afternoon off to congratulate someone finally dealing with the scum of the earth that was her family.

"Another Butterbeer please." She said with small tap on the hip to the waitress as she flew by the table that Addie was currently occupying. One that was moderately close to the table where she could sit and watch the rain pour down. She sighed and looked back at the Prophet article and wondered how many people still believed the Prophet more than the truth.

Marion Blackwood, a veteran Hit Witch and dedicated public servant was found dead...

She finished off the last of her current butterbeer in anticipation of the next one and tried to place the name of her beloved kindred brethren. Most likely a second or third cousin; she'd probably even met her a few times. Even more likey that this girl was one of the Blackwoods that ( ... )

Jack dropped himself into the chair across from Addie with no invitation. Hey, he didn't need one.

"Friend or foe?" He asked, tapping the newspaper with one finger.

"Most definitely foe. I don't care how much the bloody prophet wants to say otherwise." She almost snarled at the paper but then rolled her eyes as if to remind herself that it wasn't worth the effort to actively hate her family so much.

It was slightly amusing that Addie didn't even hesitate or act surprised as Jack took a seat. She always expected him to show up at the most random moments anyway. "I'm sure the ministry is all up in arms about it though..."

For the first time in a while she just couldn't put on enough to start flirting with Jack immediately. Her family was too much on her mind and they tended to put a damper on anything else until she couldn't stop thinking about them.

Jack shrugged a bit. "The ministry in up in arms about too many things to keep track off. It's like a fucking circus there..." He paused, lowering his voice. "Oh, but, you didn't hear that." He glanced around. "And hopefully neither did anyone else."

Things were tense these days and he had to be careful. People he knew had lost their jobs for much lesser offenses than calling the ministry circus-like.

He looked back at Addie, sipping butterbeer from a half empty bottle. "You all right, then?"

It was true, some of the charms of Hogsmeade had started to wear off after all of these years being able to visit but Derek still liked it well enough. This weekend, he was particularly happy to go. Maybe he was just excited for the weekend. Derek was convinced it would be a good weekend and here was hoping that self-fulfilling prophecy would work to his advantage if nothing else.

It felt good to be out of the castle. He might even buy something for himself while he was here and not just treats for Ruth Ann and Cassie. Hannah hadn't been interested in coming down so it was just him for now. Maybe it was early yet but it didn't seem entirely out of the question for Derek to run into someone who he could hang out with for awhile. Getting a butterbeer by yourself was pretty lame.

J.J. still loved Hogsmeade. It was probably something about going and getting chocolate, or going somewhere outside of Hogwarts that made it better. But honestly there was nothing better in early spring than to go, plus it gave him time to stock up on some necessary prank items. After all, his birthday was in just over a bloody week! He needed to get some plans going already, otherwise it would be a waste of a perfectly good April Fool's day!

But he was just walking through when he spotted Derek just ahead of him, and figured might as well say hello. The bloke wasn't too bad and it would be nice to have some company...

"Hey."

"Oh, hey." Derek turned to see J.J. catching up to him and smiled. He wasn't the only one here then. Which was silly of course, there were plenty of students running around but still. Maybe Derek was starting to feel old in his sixth year.

"How's it going then? Enjoying the last weekend before the big game?" Even if he wasn't playing, Derek thought it was nice that for once, the dance and Hogsmeade didn't fall on the same weekend as Quidditch. There were just too many ways for that to go wrong. Too many distractions.
