Caps Revamped!

Sep 29, 2007 14:12

Alright, as promised, I've reworked the character caps. Most of them are not hard lines because we'd rather not restrict game play more than necessary but we do want to keep things within reasonable lines. So, that said, look these over and if you have any questions, please let us know. My goal here is to make the caps clear and easy to understand. If I've failed? Tell me. I will be keeping the numbers and percentages in here up to date so this should always reflect the current state of applications.
Note: Most of these still only apply to Hogwarts but there are some exceptions.

Blood status - What you're all really interested in...
Applies to: Hogwarts
The numbers in this section count students ONLY.

Ideally, the breakdown we'd like to shoot for is as follows:
Purebloods = 25%
Halfbloods = 50%
Muggleborns = 25%

Remember that halfblood is a very loose term and encompasses anyone who's not entirely from wizarding stock. You can still be elitist and be a halfblood. You can be DE inclined and still be a halfblood. You can also be a perfectly nice person. Please try not to let your character's alignment make you think they have to be pureblood or muggleborn.

Our current student numbers (as of 11/29/08) are:

Purebloods = 19/55 or 34.5%
Halfbloods = 23/55 or 41.8%
Muggleborns = 13/55 or 23.6%

As you can see, we're actually not too far from where we'd like to be. That said, blood status is something we're willing to work with if you have a good reason for wanting a pureblood. Family members/siblings of currently played purebloods will NOT count towards the % or cap and are allowed. It's silly to say the numbers are off simply because one family has more kids than another.

The following Pureblood families have more than one played student:
Cartier - 2
Farley - 2
Foxkith - 2
Kendrick - 2

From now on, pureblood families will count as one unit toward caps. Therefore, the numbers will be fudged for the four families above, each counting as only one person (subtracting four from the total number of purebloods) so that the percentage for cap purposes will be considered to be:

Purebloods = 15/55 or 27.3%

Restricted Sparklies - These are special/rare abilities. You can ask, but don't expect to have it handed to you just because.
Applies to: Hogwarts and Atlas

1. Animagi (currently 2/68 characters IG)
2. Metamorphagi (currently 0/68 characters IG; no, this doesn't mean the first to ask gets one)

Pet Peeve Statistical Caps - These are things we'd like to see kept reasonable. Specific number restrictions will not be set but we like variety right?

1. Rich characters (currently ?27/68 characters IG or ?%) - Unless you're a family member of an already existing rich character (in which case you're exempt) we will NOT be accepting upper class applications for students. Give middle or upper middle a try, won't you?
Applies to: Hogwarts, Atlas will have slightly more flexibility

2. Twins (currently 5/68 characters IG) - All are students and only one full pair is currently played (three single twin characters with NPC'd twins, one of which is dead). Unless you're apping the other half of one of these, expect to need a very good reason as to why you should get a twin. This restriction applies to NPC twins as well (ie. unplayed siblings, we have at least one set already established so let's not get too carried away).
Applies to: Hogwarts

3. Foreign born/transfer students (currently 5/68 characters IG) - The numbers here don't concern me yet. Do keep in mind however that we're playing Harry Potter and the vast majority of students, teachers, and Atlas adults should be from Great Britain. If you'd like to app someone that is not, feel free to do so but do expect us to ask why you want it.
Applies to: Hogwarts

4. Characters living in London (currently 15/68 characters IG or 22.1%) - I'm not going to say that your character cannot be from London. It is a very large city and it is perhaps the only place a good number of us can name off the top of our heads in England. Still, this shouldn't be the easy/default answer for the "location" question on your app. If your character is going to live in London when not at school, at least research it a bit and pick what part of London; there are plenty of districts and suburbs. All we're looking for is some creativity. And don't forget that there are two entire islands to be choosing from.
Applies to: Hogwarts

5. Broom ownership - See this post in np_quidditch for restrictions on what brooms are available.

Player Restrictions - These are designed with variety in mind and to make sure players don't get too excited and take on more than they can handle. If you think an exception should be made to one of these, you can certainly ask and we'll consider it.

1. A player cannot have more than 5 characters in np_hogwarts.
2. A player cannot not have more than 1 teacher. If you're that excited to write class lessons, feel free to make suggestions at np_professor.
3. A player cannot have more than 1 student per year in the same house.
4. A player cannot have more than 2 students per year, regardless of house. Give the littles some love too, yeah?
*Preexisting characters that violate player caps are exempt.

Once again, if you have any questions feel free to ask. These are guidelines, not absolutes and the mods will work with you if you've got a good reason for wanting a restricted or "capped" something.
