Really, uh, most of this is below, in strengths and weaknesses, since I did those first. So.. yeah.
Strengths: Both magical and personality:
Magical:
Jesse's one true talent when it comes to the magical world is potions. It's a subject he has excelled at from the start. He has the eye for detail that is needed, possesses the patience and precision (though those traits do not always carry over to other parts of his life) and has a passion for the subject that leads him to try new things, make his own improvements and variations, and even craft his own concoctions. He has always had good relationships with his potions professors because of his eagerness to learn, and currently volunteers himself to help professor Mac with whatever he can, from organizing the store room to trying to help out with the brewing of some of the simpler potions that stock the hospital wing. He tends to ramble about potions if he gets on the subject, and gets very wistful talking about hellebore and doxy wings. He also carries with him at all times a small stock of useful potions, like headache draught and pepper up potion, as well as a few more devious brews. In short, he's a potions nerd.
He's also pretty good at Herbology (although you wouldn't know it these days, since he's been failing assignments on purpose) and Ancient Runes
Personality
As far as personality goes, Jesse has some good traits... I guess
He's a very determined person (though that often bleeds into stubborn) which explains how he managed to get passing OWLs in subjects he's not great at. He recognizes when things are important and will do what he has to in order to accomplish difficult goals. Ok, so not all the time, but he does possess that ability.
Overall he's a very nice person. He's genuinely caring and willing to listen and help his friends in any way he can. He's very defensive of those he cares about. He doesn't believe in vengeance but he does believe in justice (Batman much?) and while he does get upset and do things to try and get even, he is a very forgiving person. H recognizes the importance of picking your battles, what is worth fighting over and what isn't, and if someone is a good person he won't hold a grudge (for too long.) He'll also never, or almost never, resort to violence. He's a big honking pacifist most of the time, due to prior experiences. He also does not drink, due to that same experience.

Jesse and his wand don't really get along. On a good day and with enough focus he can do charms acceptably well, and on a better day with even clearer focus he can pull of decent transfiguration, but he never has been and never will be particularly good at wand driven magic. Transfiguration is his absolute worst subject, he does a bit better in charms, and manages to do decently in DADA when they're not working on hexes and the like. He mainly just, lacks the ability. It's not an effort thing, even when he gives it his all, he can't pull spells off as well as others his age can. His magic isn't really all that strong.

Jesse's main personality flaw is that he's TOO DAMN EMO. No, like, honestly. He mopes a lot, he grumps a lot, and he often gets very self absorbed in his own emotions. And then he feels guilty that he's being so self absorbed, which makes him even mopier. He tends to dwell on things, but at the same time, he doesn't really like to talk about these things. He only opens up to a few key people, but he's always hiding something from someone.
He's also very jealous and somewhat possessive. He seems to have a history of wanting what he can't have, or even just what he doesn't have. Even though it's foolish he seems to always want everything, have his cake and eat it too, so to speak. Whether he is just never satisfied or hasn't found the right person to satisfy him... remains to be seen.
Fears:
On a superficial level, storms. He is terrified of storms. It comes from growing up on the shore, and seeing what weather can do, how devastating it can be. On a deeper level... he's a bit scared of himself, at the moment. He's got a lot going on with himself that he doesn't understand, and it scares the shit out of him. And like most, he is scared of being alone, of losing the people he loves.
History:
Jesse is the youngest of 3 boys, the son of a proud muggle father and a loving pureblood mother. His family life is normal and mostly drama free. He has supportive parents, loving siblings, and lives in a beautiful little house with a private cove on the shore of Cornwall. He's very lucky and blessed to have such things, and knows it. The family isn't particularly wealthy, the house and land has been passed down through generations of Martin men, and Jesse hopes to snag it himself some day.
As far as Jesse goes outside of school, he's a swimmer, a surfer boy, and a musician. He's been in a band before, has mates who are musicians at home, etc. His main love is playing bass guitar, but he plays the good old 6 string as well. He also loves reading, specifically, Shakespeare. He is the cutest little shakespeare nerd, man.
Physical Description: Jesse is 5'9" (he insists he's 5'10") and has the build of a young man brought up in the water, with broad shoulders and a trim frame. He's got a little bit of chub on his tummy, which he's self conscious/defensive about. He's got curly dark brown hair and bright blue eyes, and fair skin. He also has a few scars on his stomach/side.
Significant Relationships:
Family: Optional: He is closest to Jack, his middle brother, who is always there for him, protects and defends him, teaches him, and once saved his life. He gets along very well with his oldest brother, Seth, as well. Seth is the more kind, gentle, hopeless romantic Martin boy, while Jack is loud and a bit obnoxious and has a nose for trouble. Jesse has adopted traits from both of them. He also gets along just fine with both of his parents, though in the future he and his father might have some issues.
Friends: Optional: At Hogwarts, Jesse has a few close friends and many interesting acquaintances. One of his best friends is Dakota Paige, who he met several years ago and charmed with chocolate. She has been there for him to lend a kind ear and support him, and he tries his best to do the same for her.
Another good friend who he's gotten close to very quickly is the fourth year Amaury Oniyama. From their first meeting Amaury has been there to listen and offer his blunt advice and quiet support. Jesse lets himself be open with Amaury and plays music for him, and Amaury offers him a place to stay when the sixth year dorm becomes too much to take. In turn, Amaury has opened up to Jesse slightly, and Jesse is always surprised and always learning things about him. Amaury is the first close male friend, other than his brothers, that Jesse has had in a long while, and sometimes he struggles with what the boundaries of friendship are. But he values Amaury's companionship immensely and admires the quiet strength of the boy who just doesn't seem over two years younger.
A girl Jesse has known since his second year is Jul Agate. They started off as tutor and student but quickly became friends, and it didn't take long for Jesse to realize that he liked Jul much more than just that. For years they both stayed silent about their feelings, until fall of Jesse's sixth year. Jul told Jesse how she felt about him while he was dating someone else, and by the time he realized that Jul was the one he wanted, she'd started dating someone too. After avoidance, complications, some yelling, some lies, and one punch, they've finally maybe sorted something out. And now they're just... seeing where it takes them. They've been dating about a month and a half, as of now.
Jesse's roommates are Zak Reso and Remy Cowan. He's never gotten particularly close to either of them, but this year he's starting to bond with Zak a bit. They have love of music in common and Jesse fixed Zak's guitar. He has also found himself, to his surprise and Zak's, offering his help when Zak has found himself in bad favor with the slytherins. Jesse is less fond of Remy, but manages somehow to still tolerate him, and forgive him, no matter how infuriating he can get.
Recently Jesse has been enraptured by the charms of a first year, Pimento Pepper. Pim always makes him smile, whether by giving his dandelions and rocks or being cute and stubborn. Through Pim Jesse has formed a strange sort of bond with Hannah Salix, who he has turned to for help in taking care of Pim.

His mother and two brothers were both Gryffindors, so it runs in the family, but Jesse sometimes feels like he doesn't belong in Gryffindor because he's not the bravest of people. He is however fiercely loyal, and he does own the gryff tendency to be loud and brash sometimes, and act before he thinks.

Zak's guitar played better than his own now, and he knew Zak wouldn't mind. He sat in the window and gently strummed out a few indistinct chords, eyes trailing over Zak's corner of the room. Everything was left as it was, but it was painfully empty. Now, at least, one piece of his roommate was being kept here, in the soft notes that rose from the borrowed guitar.
