BASE CHARACTER PROFILE -- PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE SHOULD ONLY BE ONE WORD ANSWERS (Except for the last one... and use your common sense for others too.)
Name: Maible Alicia Gallagher

(a unique name, I know. I found it here: "Mable [Maible] (female)- An English form of the Latin name Amable, which probably means 'lovable'. It has been used to anglicise Maeve.")

LJ: maible

Birthdate: September 3, 1991 (oh, snap, just missed the cutoff)
Age: 14
Gender: Female
Wand: 9 inch vine, unicorn hair core

(as usual, I am going by the celtic birth tree for the wood, and this particular bit caught my eye as fitting to Maible's character, which cinched my decision to use vine for the wood. Vine people are discriminating, authoritative and set high personal standards. They appear cool and detached but are secret romantics and can be sensitive, vulnerable and self critical.)

10 Words to describe your character: self-concious, independent, determined, resentful, skeptical, naive, sheltered, curious, chivalrous, shy

EXTENDED APPLICATION -- PLEASE DO AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH ON EACH OF THESE, UNLESS THEY ARE STATED TO BE OPTIONAL
Personality: Being raised away from the magical community has left Maible very naive about how the wizarding world works. She has, of course, learned quite a bit in her first two and a half years at Hogwarts, but she's more sheltered than many of her classmates who come from wizarding families. She's not entirely aware of just how bad or dangerous the war against Voldemort is or could be and since she really doesn't know that much about the world she now lives in at school, a part of her wonders if the purebloods might be right about blood making a difference. After all, who is she to judge such things when she never even knew magic existed for the first 11 years of her life?

Maible is also quite self-concious. She often trips over her own words and she is not quite as social as many Gryffindors. Her passion and determination are there below the surface and she does have the heart of a lion, but it remains hidden much of the time behind a layer of social awkwardness. She doesn't go out of her way to make friends mostly because she doesn't appreciate her own self-worth and doesn't feel like she has much to contribute to a friendship. When someone does show an interest in her, she doesn't trust that right away, but once she does begin to trust a friendship, she's easy to manipulate.

Despite her lack of social graces, Maible is friendly and sweet to pretty much everyone. She'd not afraid to defend herself again someone who truly wrongs her, but she really doesn't have a mean bone in her body.

Maible has always felt older than she is. She's bog for her age, which often makes her look older than she actually is and that coupled with the responsibility of helping her mother around the house and occasionally helping out at her mother's work can make her seem not as young or naive as she really feels on the inside. It's something she struggles with a little, because she feels like people expect more of her because of her appearance. She tries to live up to those perceived expectations, but she finds herself falling short often.

Strengths: Both magical and personality: Maible isn't particularly exceptional in any one thing. She works hard enough to do well in most subjects and will just barely manage to make E's in a handful of classes. Her best class is Care of Magical Creatures, which she's just started this year. She loves the class, because she's always had a love for animals and she finds all the various magical ones fascinating. Her other favorite class is Divination, but while she loves it, she's not particularly good at it.

Maible has more personality weaknesses than strengths, it seems, but one of her strong points is that she is fiercely independent. She's determined to make something of herself someday, to actually USE her magic, and she is equally determined to do it on her own. She doesn't readily confide in others or accept help for anything, because she doesn't feel like she can truly depend on anyone but herself.

She also has a curiosity about the magical world that could be seen as either a good or bad point. Because she only learned of magic when she got her Hogwarts letter, she's had a thirst to learn everything she can about it and to prove herself as not disadvantaged in the least from not being brought up a proper witch.

Weaknesses: Both magical and personality: In most things Maible is just woefully average, but one subject she is absolutely abysmal in is Astronomy. Maible likes looking at stars and thinks they are pretty, but she just can't get a grasp on doing star charts or remembering what constellations are what and where they should appear. She'll be lucky to manage a P on that O.W.L. Aside from that, History of Magic (boring!) and Herbology are her weakest subjects. Runes and Arithmancy would have been right up there, had she chosen to take them, but she was smart enough to realise those would be poor elective choices to make.

This tendency to be average extends to other things, too. She's not particularly good at anything, except when it comes to caring for animals. She has a natural affinity for them, which might be because she's always seemed to prefer their company to that of people. She likes animals, because they're good listeners. You can babble in front of them and most of them won't talk back.

Probably her biggest weakness in terms of personality is her self-image. Maible is very self-concious about who she is and how she looks. She expects the worst of people, thinking they couldn't possibly like her for her and always questioning their motives when they are nice to her. She doesn't think very highly of herself, so she doesn't expect others to, either.

Fears: Never amounting to anything, ending up like her mother - in a life of waiting on people and never really using her magic.

History: Maible grew up in Donegal, Ireland on the grounds of the Bed and Breakfast her mother has worked for since before she was born. As a young child, she never questioned why they lived amongst Muggles and she loved the place she grew up. She grows quite homesick while at Hogwarts, missing the view of Lough Eske that she's grown up with.

Maible has never had an extremely close relationship with her father. Her mother doesn't like to speak of him very often and she doesn't see him frequently. She supposed that's what happens when your mum gets knocked up by another woman's husband and she's not sure if she hates him for that or not. Mostly, she tries not to think about it, because she knows she's lucky to have her mum, at least, and her dad does take care of her financially as well as sending the occasional owl.

Magic to Maible is almost a way out. As much as she loved her mother and her homeland, she doesn't want to end up like her. She's a little resentful that she was sheltered from magic as a child and she is determined to make something more of herself, to use her magical gifts to better herself and the world around her. She's inherited a proud and determined nature from her mother and she's not about to let anything stop her from her goals, nor does she like to rely on anyone else to help her achieve them.

The student deaths this year have hit Maible pretty hard. Even though she didn't know the kids who died and she can almost believe that purebloods are better magically, she finds it reprehensible that someone could be KILLED. She feels rather helpless about it all and really wishes she could DO something. It's causing her to play a bit closer attention in DADA and to start thinking about what she wants to do when she finishes school - how she can really make a difference andmake sure something like that doesn't happen again.

Physical Description: At the least, provide base details of build, height, eye/hair colour, and complexion. A little on the chunky side with dirty blonde/light brown hair and bright blue eyes. She has a round face, which lends to the sweet, innocent look about her, those she does look older than her actual age. She's about average height for her age, but also slightly overweight and she is very self-concious about her appearance. Between her weight and looking older than she is, she's really not at all comfortable in her own skin.

Significant Relationships:
Family: Optional: She saw her father about once a month when she was younger. Now that she's away at Hogwarts most of the year, though, she sees him very infrequently. She is fairly close to her mother, but holds some resentment for her not telling her about the magical world before she had to and denying her a chance to be raised in that world.
Friends: Optional: Maible doesn't have many close friends, but she is friendly and sweet to pretty much everyone. Despite her normally sweet nature, though, she isn't afraid to fight people/things she feels are wrong.
Other: Optional:

Special Considerations: Such as broom ownership, being an animagus, famous in some form, or a metamorphmagus. All are subject to mod approval, and if you are given special considerations, you are liable to be used for plots at the Plot Mod's command. None, thanks, but feel free to use and abuse at will if needed.

COMMUNITY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS -- ONLY ANSWER THE SECTION APPLICABLE TO YOUR CHARACTER
Hogwarts:
Year: 3rd year
House: Gryffindor
Why are they in that house? Maible might not be the stereotypical bold and loud Gryffindor, but give her a cause worth fighting and she will give her all to that cause. She doesn't wear it on her sleeve, but she values chivalry and is absolutely willing to fight for what she believes in. Once she figures out what those things are. Some people with her self esteem issues might be likely to mold themselves into the type of person others would like or hide their true feelings and opinions in order to make people like them, but not Maible. She'll freely tell her friends what she thinks without regard to whether it will make them like her more or less. She expects people to not really like her, but she'd still rather be herself and while she might be a bit self-deprecating, she won't apologize for the person she is or the one she wants to be.

I expect her Gryffish traits will come out more and more as she grows older. She's still learning her way around the magical world and the politics of it all and I think that once she becomes a bit more acclimated, her inner bravery will come through.
Position: (Subject to mod approval)

ROLEPLAY SAMPLE -- PLEASE ENSURE THAT THIS IS IN THIRD PERSON NARRATIVE POINT OF VIEW
Maible shook her head. Honestly, she didn't care so much about Adrian being so dismissive toward her. It was what she expected from most people. It wasn't as though she was anything extraordinary, after all.

"No.. it's not your fault, 'Risa," she smiled. "I still think you could do better, but, hey, at least you have a boyfriend, right?"

She blinked and nodded her head at the girl's question. "Of course we're still friends!" she said rather emphatically.

She'd just have to find someone else to hang around with at Hogsmeade if Amorisa was going to be busy with that boy of hers. Maybe some of the other third years, or maybe she'd go on her own.

MOD-ONLY QUESTIONS -- THESE WILL ONLY BE KNOWN TO THE MODS
Character Secrets: Neither of them knows it yet, but her father is Ashleigh Barton's father. Even with the same last name, she's not yet made the connection and Ashleigh has no idea that he father has ever cheated on her mother, let alone had another child.

Character Alliance: Good, but malleable. She has ambition and she's very naive about the wizarding world, so despite her less than pure blood, she might be easily manipulated and would definitely be susceptible to a good Imperius Curse. In the end, I think she'll probably be good, but it really depends on what happens to her in the next few years while she is still young and impressionable. If she does, as anticipated by me, turn out good, I can see her becoming an Auror (because she'll want to make a difference and do something important) or at the least, I can see her joining to Order after school. She's very angry about what happened at the Slytherin party and, if invited, I can see her being really active with the planned DA stuff.
