EXTENDED APPLICATION -- PLEASE DO AT LEAST A PARAGRAPH ON EACH OF THESE, UNLESS THEY ARE STATED TO BE OPTIONAL Personality:
Illyria regards herself as a calm, level-headed individual. She believes that emotions should be left undiscussed and unseen. People who are melodramatic and overly emotional are inferior and immature, according to her. The only person she trusts with any of her true feelings is her brother. Atticus is also the only other individual whom Illyria would trust with her life.

Family is extremely important to Illyria and she believes that strong family morals and disciplines are the only way a proper family should run. Her parents were particularly strict with her and her brother and thus they feel that any sort of excess emotions are frivolous and plebeian. Illyria and Atticus grew to adopt their parents opinions about magic and those fit to use it. She believes that magic is indeed a privilege and an exclusive honour, and only those who are born from all-magical families are suited to use it. She resents those who have married into non-magic families and wasted their talents and lineage by potentially giving the gift of magic to those who do not deserve it. If one was not born into it, they are undeserving and tainted, or so the twins have always been taught. Although the Cartiers don't come from a spectacularly prestigious family of purebloods, they are a respectable, proper family and Illyria feels that they have excellent reasoning to look down upon those who are not. She possesses a profound amount of pride and elitism about her family and does not wish to shame them by acting inappropriately. As a result, Illyria and her brother adhere to a strict timetable that they have collaborated to give themselves a consistent and solid backbone of their school life so that they might focus on their studies without having to fiddle around with schedules. Consistency and routine have always gone hand in hand with the two of them, and they are comforts to Illyria. She has never swayed from a timetable since setting foot in school, as she imagines that somehow her parents will find out if she or Atticus create a display of themselves and will somehow be a disappointment. Anger was never an openly expressed emotion in the Cartier household, only 'disappointment.' The last time Illyria disappointed the family she wishes nothing more to proudly represent, she was made to read an 800 page historical volume on pureblood witches who accomplished great deeds during their lifetimes and present an entire summary on three of the most prestigious. Illyria has never disregarded a schedule since.

When it comes to romance, Illyria is very much like her brother. She isn't trusting enough of other people to become emotionally involved with another. Because of her guardedness and superiority complex, she's only had a few short-lived flings with no lasting emotional ties. Her main attraction patterns usually consist of a bloke who will place her on a pedestal and follow her every whim. She'll eventually become bored with them and send them on their merry way.

Illyria and her brother have always been the other's closest confidants. Sharing a dorm room with four other girls was outrageously difficult for her during first year. She's grown accustomed to her complete lack of privacy over the years, but she is certainly not as close to her dormmates as she could possibly be. She's only ever trusted a select few people and even to them she remains a calm and collected individual. Appearing mature and superior in front of her peers has always been extremely important to her. And because of her elitist upbringing, she wouldn't be caught dead associating with Muggleborns. These principles make it very difficult for her to have 'friends' in an all-encompassing sense of the word.

Strengths: Both magical and personality:
Illyria is a diligent student and has been taught to always put forth her best effort. One never knows when the knowledge one retains will come to be useful. Therefore, Illyria takes strictly academic courses. She was more than happy to drop Herbology when she had the chance. However, she decided to drop Defense Against the Dark Arts as well because she doesn't feel any practical use for it. Defense Against the Dark Arts is for Gryffindors and Mudbloods, in her opinion.

Although she is a Ravenclaw, Illyria is fiercely ambitious. Goal-setting and keeping clear objectives have always been crucial elements to her lifestyle. She doesn't tolerate outside distractions once she's set on a particular end result. However, maintaining a balanced personality is key to becoming a successfully rounded individual, so she stows away a reasonable amount of leisure time in which she might spend time with her brother or read for her own enjoyment. Her secret passion is reading historical fiction, so that she can enjoy the plot yet still gain some sort of knowledge. She likes trying to decipher the facts from the fabricated. She does not aspire to be more than she knows she is capable of, in that way she is quite practical.

Weaknesses: Both magical and personality: Although she is well-spoken, Illyria does not treat other people the way they deserve to be treated. This most likely stems from the fact that she is cautious and guarded and more or less untrusting of everybody except for Atticus.

She is also outrageously dependent on keeping to a strict schedule. Spontaneity has never been an option or something she would consider. If she would ever have to improvise, Illyria would be at a total loss of what to do or how to function. She becomes very anxious when schedules and timetables clash and she will be at a total loss of what to do. She must always be in control, she doesn't like feeling like things are beyond her grasp.

Academically speaking, she does not have a natural grasp at Potions and Charms the same way her brother does, although she does well in the subjects because she studies for them and works extremely hard. She also despises Herbology because she hates working in the dirty greenhouses and getting bitten by plants and covered in fertilizer. She managed to pass it because it was expected of her but she was more than happy to be rid of it after fifth year.

Fears/Motivations: Because she was raised in such seclusion, Illyria is most certainly and introvert and large crowds of unfamiliar people intimidate her. She is easily overwhelmed and mildly claustrophobic. The feeling of being in a crowded room with no means of escape make her uncomfortable, and despite the fact that she's always learned to keep her emotions to herself, her brother can see right through her stoic facade and he's the only one capable of calming her down. She also tends to worry over things that could compromise her image to the general public. Reputation is key, and she feels that all and any of her actions directly reflect her upbringing and her family. Her greatest fear is to know that she has brought disappointment and shame upon her family. And of course, she fears anything happening to her brother.

History:
The Cartier family has been around for quite sometime. The family was not well known for the first generations, but was an up and coming family. Alejandro and Maya Cartier, the leading family couple at the time, arranged a marriage for their eldest daughter, Soleil Morgana, to Theirry DeSailly. This important marriage into the DeSailly family cemented the Cartier's position in society. Soleil's had a younger brother by the name of Abacus. Alejandro decided that he didn’t want his children attending Hogwarts and sent them off to Beauxbatons (for Soleil) and Drumstrang (for Abacus) for proper schooling. There Abacus learned to adhere to the strict rules. This would greatly affect the way he raised his own children in the future. Abacus developed unwavering love for Airthmancy and Potions during his time at school and could be found at Potions conventions often after he finished school. It was at one convention where he met the woman of his dreams, Sohcahtoa Greengale. Sohcahtoa (or Pi by her friends) was a French woman who loved order and rules just as much as he did. They were smitten.

(Irving Cartier, Alejandro's twin, went insane after a short term in Azkaban and decided to turn over a new leaf and fight magical creatures instead. She traveled by herself in a row boat to the Isle of Drear armed with a wooden sword (aka knobby stick), a kettle helmet, and tea cozy armor. She was eaten by a deadly Quintaped as soon as she made her first step out of the boat.)

Pi and Abacus married and made a home in the English countryside. They started a business making extremely difficult potions for sale and doing intense research in Arithmancy. Having a father and aunt that both participated as Death Eaters in both wars could really have lots of anti-Muggle imprinted on one’s brain. To understand Abacus and Pi’s view on Muggles, one has to know that they feel magic is something very powerful and it is a privilege to have. That is why they take such pride in their research of magical elements and making of difficult potions. It expands the knowledge of magic and utilizes difficult aspects of it which is a privilege to be able to do. Now when it comes to Muggles, the Cartier’s do not think Muggles should be allowed any knowledge of the wizarding world as they were not chosen to be a part of it. They are not worthy of the world and the magic within it.

In 1989, the Cartier family had a set of fraternal twins. Twins run in the family after all. Atticus Victor and Illyria Margaret were born. Atticus was born a whole 2 minutes before his sister and enjoys telling her as such when the occasion calls for it. He loves his sister more than anything. They understand each other so well that by just a look they can tell what the other is feeling. The siblings are remarkably close, but like everyone they have arguments. Their disagreements are usually said, not yelling in anger, but in witty comments back and forth. They can say cruel things to each other, but it's only to get a point across. If all fails, Illyria whips out the puppy dog eyes and Atticus will let her do what she wants, which, in these cases, is probably something he wouldn't approve under other circumstances. Illyria trusts her brother with her life and confides in everything to him.

Illyria and Atticus are each other's consciences and best friends. One simply can't exist without the other. They've been together their entire lives and they know more or less everything about the other. They can pick up on the other's habits, and one could joke that they pick up on each other's thoughts. They know each other so well that even a single expression can communicate an entire train of thought. For the most part, one's flaw is the other's strength, so that together they would make a complete individual. They're very self reliant, but when they think of independence, independence includes both of them together. One of them as a single individual doesn't usually cross their minds. They're very wary of letting other people in to their circle of trust, they have an unspoken agreement that there has to be mutual approval of the people they associate themselves with. This all started from a very young age. Because of what their parents do, when the twins were born they've only really had themselves for entertainment. They didn't have many childhood friends. They were far out in the country to stay far away from peering eyes in the Cartier's research. Not many visitors came around. The two rely consistently on each other for support and protection. That is why they have their unspoken agreement. It has been like that since early childhood and it isn't about to change. They are very self-reliant and independent of others, and only find true loyalty and trust with each other.

As children, their parents kept them under strict timetables and schedules so that they would learn self-discipline. This was partially because Abacus and Sohcatoa value self-discipline as one of the strongest of human traits, and partially because they wanted to make sure that they were going to be able to trust their only children at Hogwarts. Abacus wanted to send them to Durmstrang, but Sohcahtoa insisted on Beauxbatons, hence why they had to choose a comfortable median with the third of magical institutions. The rules were key in living in the Cartier household. You did not disobey them under any circumstances or face grave punishments. Punishments might consist of reading very large, tedious texts and presenting a complete summary. Atticus and Illyria learned quite quickly not to disobey. Dinner is served at 6 o'clock every evening. Brunch on Sundays is at 11 o'clock. Never a minute too late or too early. The twins were taught to play the piano for discipline from an early age. The each have developed a knack for it and play often. There is something about keeping the correct tempo, controlling your fingers to such a degree, and reading sheet music that keeps your mind engaged. That engagement requires practice and a good amount of effort; therefore, resulting in discipline.

Appearance means everything to them. Their parents taught them you can judge anyone by just appearance alone. First impressions are the most lasting after all. Taking care of how you look will greatly influence the way others think of you. Cleanliness is next to Godliness. The Cartiers are always neat and clean in appearance, always.

Year: 6th
House: Ravenclaw
Why are they in that house? Illyria is studious and has a passion for knowledge. She is open-minded and skeptical when it comes to information and enjoys researching topics she's interested in. She does possess many Slytherin qualities but she is better suited to Ravenclaw because her intelligence and thirst to learn far outweigh her cunningness. Position: (Subject to mod approval)
