CHARACTER NAME: Hinamori Momo
SERIES: Bleach
RESERVED: Yes
WISHLIST: No
PERSONALITY: Sweet, naive, and wanting to please everyone. But she has
got a core of fire, and a backbone stronger than most would give her credit for.
She's still quite naive, even though she's stated that she wants to overcome and
outgrow this. In many ways, Momo is perhaps too trusting of others, especially
those she admires. Even after her captain who she has trusted utterly and looked
up to for years, reveals his villain status by stabbing her through the chest,
screwing over the rest of the the Gotei 13, and fleeing to Hueco Mundo, she
still has herself half-convinced that he's not really evil, and something else
is going on, not through any real logic, but sheer force of disbelief. She can
overcome this in the face of evidence--she's neither blind nor stupid, just
wanting to trust too much.
Momo is also a bit impulsive, sometimes saying things or doing them before she
gets a chance to think them through. Despite this, she is generally a good
person, friendly towards most people and generally upbeat. She's also prompt,
polite, and pleasant, though her patience does get tried at times.
For all that, Momo has quite a bit of inner strength, when she turns to it. A
defined sense of right and wrong coupled with quite a bit of power, and a temper
that only comes out when it's really needed. She has the skills to support such
power, and has clearly worked very hard to get where she is now, so much so that
her friends make comment on it. She is good at teamwork, has some managerial
skills, can be a little bossy when needs be, and is still good at taking orders
from those who she sees as being in authority over her. She'd much rather get
people to do what she wants with a request and a smile instead of an order.
She's usually rather quiet though, and enjoys drawing (which she's rather good
at), reading (fostered by her former captain), and can bake some, is not
terrible at things like ikebana and the like. Her friends and her family are
both important to her, and she wants to protect them, above all.
TIMELINE: 10 days after the Battle for Karakura (Chapter 423 "Farewell
Swords")
BACKGROUND:
Momo Hinamori grew up in the first district of Rukongai with Hitsugaya Toshirou.
Momo was very fond of him and amused by him, even though Hitsugaya was kind of a
brat back then and would call her Bed-wetter Momo whenever she called him by his
hated nickname of Shirou-chan. Because of this, the two are still quite close,
and rather protective of each other.
Later on, Momo entered the Shinigami Academy, testing into the top class along
with Abarai Renji and Kira Izuru, both of whom would become her friends. The
most significant event in cementing their friendship was on a routine field
exercise in the living world led by Hisagi Shuuhei that went terribly wrong.
While practicing taking out fake Hollows in teams of three, a group of Huge
Hollows that could hide their reiatsu attacked. While everyone else ran away as
ordered, Momo decided to run back and help Shuuhei, with Izuru and Renji
following her, albeit a little more reluctantly.
Though they escaped from the first Hollow as a group, the four of them were soon
surrounded by a whole group of Huge Hollows with no chance of escape. They
hadn't had any chance against the one, and against a group of them all seemed
lost--until the re-enforcements from Soul Society arrived, in the form of
Captain Aizen and his lieutenant at the time, Ichimaru Gin.
The both of them took out the group of Huge Hollows easily, and it was then that
Momo decided she would be in Aizen's division. This was the start of a long
idolization of him, and she worked extremely hard to make her way through the
ranks of the fifth squad and become his lieutenant, eventually.
Sometime later, while the 'ryoka' were running about Soul Society trying to
rescue Rukia and generally causing chaos, Momo noticed her captain acting a bit
odd. Even to the point that, at a meeting of the vice-captains, she seems near
tears when she asks renji about it. Renji lies to her, denying the fact that he
just had a very strange conversation with Aizen about Rukia, and she believes
Renji and puts it (mostly) out of her mind.
When Renji loses to Ichigo and is brought back, Kuchiki Byakuya orders he be
placed in confinment without treatment, which Momo begins to argue with him
over. Izuru stops her, worried about how Kuchiki-taichou would react, and
accedes to his orders. Momo, somewhat reluctantly, follows his lead. Ichimaru
shows up, offering to summon the fourth squad to heal Renji, in contradiction of
Kuchiki Byakuya's orders.
Toshirou enters once Ichimaru leaves, scaring Momo and leading her to note that
all of the captains that have come and gone so far have done so silently,
surprising her. Toshirou's attitude is serious though, as he warns her to be
wary of Captain Ichimaru Gin, recalling to himself the conversation he witnessed
between Gin and Aizen earlier. While she worried over Renji and recalled their
school days together, another shinigami came to inform her of the new orders
issued by Yamamoto: that wartime conditions were now in place, allowing general
carry and release of all zanpakutous.
Worried and confused by these new orders and Hitsugaya's warning, Momo turned to
her captain, going to Aizen's quarters in the middle of the night and finding
him still awake. He reassures her that he wouldn't turn her away simply because
the hour she showed up at his door was a little rude and unusual, though it
doesn't seem to bother him, and invites her in.
Her captain was very reassuring when they briefly discuss the new wartime order.
Even his very presence comforted her greatly, and she asked if she might be
allowed to stay, and promises not to bother him or fall asleep, but simply wants
to watch him write, hoping it will make her feel better.
Momo woke the next morning, having accidentally fallen asleep sometime during
the night. Though Aizen had been kind enough to put his jacket over her as a
blanket and leave without waking her up, Momo became frantic at the time,
realizing that, if she didn't hurry, she'd miss a meeting of the lieutenants.
Running out, after taking a short-cut and halfway to the meeting, Momo's
attention was distracted by a drop of blood. She stopped and turned to look, and
screamed, bringing the other lieutenants to find her frozen, staring.
Her captain had been seemingly murdered, impaled with his own zanpakutou and
pinned up on a high wall. Momo was desolate at this discovery, unable to do
anything except scream for a minute or two, unable to even stand. Her captain,
her own captain who had been comforting her the night before, murdered.
Gin appeared on the scene then, and due to Hitsugaya's warning and Gin's
nonchalant attitude towards the dead Aizen, Hinamori attacked him, even
releasing her shikai. But Izuru Kira, her old friend and Gin's lieutenant,
prevents her from getting to Gin. When Histugaya arrives, he stops both Kira and
Hinamori, ordering that they both be restrained and imprisoned.
While captive, Hinamori is heart-broken still over the death of her captain. But
Matsumoto brings her a letter that they found in Aizen's room--his last letter
to Momo, and points out that if anyone else but Hitsugaya and herself had found
it, she might never have seen it.
Aizen had supposedly written the letter with the knowledge that he might die,
and that he should pass his secrets on to his trusted lieutenant.
Now motivated into doing so, in order to take revenge on who she believes to be
Aizen's murderer, Momo breaks out of prison using kidou, and goes off to find
and fight Hitsugaya, because that's who Aizen's letter said was behind the whole
plot and his murder. Confused at the thought that her friend would do such a
thing, and believeing it so strongly herself because her captain had told her,
Momo attacked Hitsugaya with tears streaming down her face. Hitsugaya tried to
convince her otherwise, but she was so far gone in confusion and grief by that
point she simply wasn't listening to sense, even gripping her katana so hard she
was bleeding from her hands.
Hitsugaya decided that Gin had to be behind at least the forged letter, and
started to go after him when Hinamori continued her attack on Hitsugaya. He was
forced to knock her away, harder than intended, throwing her aside and knocking
her out for the remainder of the fight.
She woke up later, having been put in another cell sealed with a kidou spell by
Hitsugaya. However, this spell was intended mostly to keep her safe from outside
attacks. However, Histugaya's spell was one that was hard to break from the
outside, but easy to break from the inside, especially for a kidou expert like
Hinamori. He had underestimated her drive and determination to find whoever she
believed had killed Aizen. She broke out, hid herself and her reiatsu with
another spell and left.
Hidden thus, she followed Hitsugaya and Matsumoto, and found herself in the
central 46's chambers, only to see that they had all been slaughtered. By who,
she wasn't certain, going through Kira and Hitsugaya as possibilities. Ichimaru
then appeared, instructing her to follow him deeper into the Central 46's
chambers.
Finally, Hinamori questioned why he was taking her there, and he claimed there
was someone there who wanted to meet with her, behind her.
It was Aizen, seemingly back from the grave. Recognizing not only his face and
voice, but even his scent and the feel of his hand, Hinamori was convinced it
was him, beginning to cry on him in relief, even convincing herself that she
should have known all along. Aizen apologized to her, thanking her and telling
her he was glad to have her as his subordinate.
And then he stabbed her with his zanpakutou, leaving her to bleed to death.
She didn't die though. Unbeknownst to her, Hitsugaya showed up in time to cover
everything in ice and get himself terrible injured by Aizen. Unohana, the head
of the medical division showed up with her lieutenant, in time, and the two of
them survived.
Hinamori's recovery took a lot longer than Hitsugaya's, however, and by the time
she was up and about, he was out on assignment in the human world. The head
captain let her talk to him via magic computers. But it was quite clear that
while her body had begun to recover, her mind hadn't so much. Yes, her captain
had stabbed her, had fled to Hueco Mundo to start an uprising against the whole
of Soul Society and the Human World, but surely, she reasoned, there must be
some explanation. Perhaps it was Gin, the former captain of the third division,
making him do it, or some other explanation. She didn't have much of a chance to
further her theories before the head captain put a stop to this, putting her to
sleep and sending her back to to recovery.
More time passed and, by the time Aizen and his Arrancar minions were ready to
attack, she was ready to fight back with the rest of the force from Soul
Society, unexpectedly showing up right in time to help Matsumoto, to fight the
three Fraccion of Harribel. They were doing quite well against them, even
two-against-three, until the fraccion pulled out their trump card: Ayon, a
monster made of part of all three of them.
This new monster was far too powerful for the lieutenants. It got to Matsumoto
first, and when Hinamori stopped Rangiku's plummet to the ground, it took her
out with a single punch, breaking most of her bones. She was caught, herself, by
Kira and Shuuhei.
Kira stayed to heal both Hinamori and Matsumoto--Matsumoto first, being more
seriously injured--to at least stable condition. The battle kept on above them.
Eventually Aizen himself decided to enter the fight, going up against many of
the Soul Society captains. The fight doesn't seem to be going anywhere, until
Hitsugaya lands a palpable hit with his sword through Aizen's chest--seemingly.
In fact, Aizen had been using his zanpakutou's ability to create illusions, and,
at some point, had switched places with Hinamori. It was now her, impaled on
Hitsugaya's sword, and Aizen was still unscathed. For now.
ABILITIES:
As a vice-captain, Momo's abilities in flash-steps (aka shunpo) and
swordsmanship are on par with many of her other vice-captains. She doesn't excel
in either area, but is more than capable. The flash step ability may be
relearned or emerge in an emergency; the swordsmanship is based on muscle memory
and may be more easily recalled.
Momo is an expert in kidou, being able to cast several high-level spells in
conjunction with each other, use it on two targets at once, and other
interesting tricks that can be useful in a fight. She also has some knowledge of
healing kidou. These won't be remembered/will have to be relearned. Her ability
to sense the reiatsu of others is latent and will therefore be present, though
she may not know precisely it is at first.
Her zanpakuto is named Tobiume. When sealed, it looks like a normal katana with
flower (possibly plum blossom) designs on the rectangular tsuba and a light red
handle. The release command is 弾け 'hajike', or "Snap". When released, it is a
fire-type zanpakutou, the blade straightens and it grows two to three 'prongs'
along the blades. From it, she can release exploding fireballs. She has not yet
achieved bankai.
In ES, she will not have her sword, and will be unable to consciously hear the
spirit of the zanpakutou in her head without something to restore that.

DREAM:
The boy with the white hair looked singularly unimpressed. But she laughed and
ruffled his hair. He always looked like that, it was his way. "I promise I'll
come back and tell you all about it."
He was still looking singularly unimpressed as she whirled off, running,
smiling. The landscape changed, and the delight was suddenly gone, along with
the sunlight, the trees, replaced by night, buildings, and distant shouts,
screams really. And there were two people, at her side. Teammates, she knew.
Friends.
But they rounded the corner, and there, along with the rest of their classmates,
was a monster, looming over them all. There was blood, and the first
upperclassman was deadm and then the second and the third was drawing his sword
and everyone but him was running, running away while she stood, stock still,
transfixed by the sight of the monster. Why was everyone running away? Even her
friends... they were arguing with her, there were orders, it had taken out
upperclassmen like nothing....
"But..."
More blood, the senior was injured now, bleeding even as he dodged. She couldn't
just leave him! And so, drawing her sword, she looked for the right moment to
jump in and help. The other two drew their swords as well, seemingly resigned to
helping if she had to.
As one they lept in, stopping the thing's claws, chanting some spell of words
that sounded like nonesense to her in the ream, red fire leaping from her
hands. And then they were running again, running away themselves.
Running straight into a trap. More monsters, appearing seemingly out of thin
air, surrounding them completely. There was no way out, this was it, and all she
could do was stare helplessly while her classmate, the blond one, insisted that
he didn't want to die.
There was no way they could defeat this many, it was hopeless, all h--
The new blade cut through the night, catching the monsters and herself off
guard, slicing through the beasts as easily as it had sped through the air.
Finally able to move as the monsters dissolved, she turned to face her rescuers.
Two men, both familiar to her, one in the white coat of rank, the other with a
badge around his arm, the badge with the lily of the valley, the one she wanted
to wear herself, someday, at the side of the man in the white haori--their
rescuer. The one who put a comforting hand on her head, telling her she had done
well, that she was safe now. She was safe, now that he was here, this much she
knew.
(And yet what was this feeling in her chest? This strange tension? Everything
was safe now, she knew it... she knew...)
The last she saw was the symbol on the back of his coat, and his reassuring
smile as the light grew, and she woke.
JOURNAL SAMPLE: How strange, a city in a tree. Like something out of a
book, perhaps.
And yet I haven't found any answers here. I don't know who I am, or why I'm
here--or even where I should be--but I suppose it's alright for now.
ASPIRATIONS:
Same as her IC ones: become less naive, find a better role model than the guy
who tried to kill her... several times over
