CHARACTER NAME: Arngrim
SERIES: Valkyrie Profile

WISHLIST: No
PERSONALITY:
Arngrim appears at first sight as a cold, powerful warrior who knows little more than fighting, who has brawns but very little brains. As usual, appearances aren’t a reflection of the soul, even though for Arngrim, part of it reflects who he is. He is very skilled in battle, an excellent warrior, and he is indeed not an intellectual; even though he proved he is far from stupid, as he elaborated fighting styles and tactics to use on the battlefield. Nevertheless, Arngrim can be pretty friendly. He cares a lot for his family and his friends. But loyal to his mercenary nature, he can betray his friends in extreme situations, such as when he agreed to work for Hrist as an Einherjar and fought against his friends, albeit reluctantly and he morally blamed himself for doing that. When he saw them back latter, he offered them to kill him for his acts, showing his pride, his honor. His honor is indeed very important, but if he realizes he made the wrong choices, he will not stubbornly fight against the evidences, but he will instead outright admit it and accept whatever punishment it implies, as long as he feels it is justified.
Arngrim is often described as brave, he never fears going into battle and fighting opponents, even when they’re probably much stronger than him, he’s reckless and careless at times, but that’s due to his exceptional ability to fight, he nearly never loses a battle, and those he lost, he then became an Einherjar for the Battle Maiden. Being a mercenary, one might think he just fight for money and prestige, but that’s not there is to it. He just loves battles, the thrill of fighting monsters, demons or even humans, the sensation of putting your life at stake; it’s something he enjoys very much, even though he’s not stupid and will not die uselessly.
He has also been described as someone selfish, and while that’s true, that doesn’t exclude him being selfless at times, like when he, in another life, gave money to his handicapped brother to help him live, or fought to help Lenneth come back. His selfishness displays in others way, he has little to no thoughts for peoples he doesn’t know or his employers, he’ll do whatever he likes even if others peoples doesn’t like it or are annoyed at it, etc. Last but not least, Arngrim is realist. He’s not going to deny reality, to try getting something that is obviously out of his reach, or believe in stuff that are just plain realist.
TIMELINE: After the ending of Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria, as he use the Water Mirror’s fragment to go back to Valhalla.
BACKGROUND: Arngrim was born in 915 CC on Midgard. Midgard is the middle world sustained by the life tree Yggdrasil, below the world of the gods (Asgard), but above the land of demons (Niflheim). Blessed with a true warrior's prowess and a good measure of luck, Arngrim became a Mercenary, feeling little more than contempt for politics, political leaders and others political/economic matters. He offered his service to whoever paid the most, given the tasks he had to commit weren’t morally unacceptable nor against his beliefs.
At the age of 26, as all wars had ended, he reconverted into treasure hunting. He met a woman named Leone and teamed up with her. It was unknown why he did so, but he respected her highly as both a woman and a warrior, it was possible they fought and he lost to her, as her secret identity is that of Hrist Valkyrie, the eldest of the three Goddesses governing destiny, a much more powerful being that he could ever hope to be, unbeknownst to him at that time. As they were exploring the Serdberg Mountain Ruins together, Arngrim and Leone met Alicia (who shared her body with the youngest Valkyrie, Silmeria), Rufus, Dylan and Lezard. Those four individuals were searching the Dragon Orb, an ancient and powerful artifact that sustained all life on Midgard. They agreed to team-up with Leone and Arngrim; in exchange for their help in exploring the place and fighting demons, the four heroes would allow Arngrim and Leone to keep whatever treasures they’d find.
Unfortunately, the Orb had been moved away from the ruins by the Guardians of the Orbs long ago, and using Silmeria’s power, the party tracked the next position of the Orb. Leone offered her help in the search, further pursuing their cooperation agreement. Although Silmeria showed sign of mistrust toward Leone, feeling who she truly was, she accepted their help, fearing Hrist’s reaction if she revealed her true identity. During the search for the Orb, Arngrim learned the truth on Alicia’s quest; the Orb was to be used to help the Kingdom of Dipan to fight the Gods and bring an end to the tyranny of Odin, the Lord of the Gods. He learnt of Rufus’ secret, being a spare vessel for Odin to transfer into the day his old vessel would die, and he also learnt Dylan’s secret, being Silmeria’s Einherjar. Albeit amazed by those revelations, he didn’t stray away from them, and continued to help them in their quest.
When they finally found the Dragon’s Orb, Leone revealed her true identity, and stole the Orb. Furious to have been fooled, Arngrim attacked her, only to be mortally wounded. Alicia and her friends tried to save him, but Hrist forced him to become one of her Einherjar, a materialized soul working for the Valkyrie. He tried to resist, but to no avail. When he was forced to go to Valhalla together with her, he reluctantly agreed to work for Hrist. Loyal to his mercenary’s nature, he came to accept the fact that he now worked for her and Odin, in spite of his hated and disdain for him; much like how he despised his previous employers. He moved on to Dipan with Hrist, and together with her, lesser Gods and Einherjars, reduced the city and castle to ruins, as an example to those who dare to defy the Gods. On her orders, he executed the King of Dipan, fought Alicia and her friends who had come to try and save Dipan, and witnessed the attempt by the Mages of Dipan to capture the souls of Silmeria and Hrist. The Mages’ attempt got thwarted by the Lord of the Undead, Brahms who had been using Dylan as a vessel to hide from Odin all along. Nevertheless, Freya came to the rescue Hrist, and managed to capture Brahms in a Crystal, and then she took Hrist and Arngrim back to Valhalla.
Lezard on his side secretly captured Silmeria and fled. Rufus and Alicia now left alone, attempted to defy Odin and tried to make of Rufus a god by accessing the powers of the Gods atop Yggdrasil; Odin tried to kill them subsequently, but Lezard joined them at the last minute and used Silmeria’s soul to incapacitate Odin, kidnap him and merge their souls together, effectively making of Lezard a God much more powerful than Odin ever was. After that, he disappeared, leaving Alicia and Rufus alone. At the same time at Valhalla, Arngrim outright defied Hrist as she summoned him to help take Odin back from Lezard, refusing to help her. As all Einherjar, he despised him a he cared very little for human’s lives, leaving Hrist to set off alone to rescue him. Later on in the Hall of Valhalla, he encountered Rufus and Alicia, who decided to try and free Brahms to stop Lezard. Arngrim offered them to take his life for having betrayed them, but instead Alicia offered him to help them free Brahms and fight Lezard; what he happily did.
He helped the party to access the room where Brahms was held, that happened to be the Water Mirror room, a special mirror that could transport its user to any place in existence. Hrist at this point came and negotiated with them, accepting to break Brahms from his Crystal in exchange of their to help to free Silmeria (and of course, Odin) from Lezard. They accepted to do so, and to escape the wrath of Freya who had come to prevent the deal from happening (out of pure disdain for humans), she used the Dragon Orb against her and then proceed to use the mirror to teleport them to the world Lezard created with Odin’s power. The mirror broke, and the team kept a fragment of it, as a way to go back to Valhalla once they’d have dealt with Lezard.
There, they met the third Valkyrie, Lenneth, who informed them of Lezard’s true nature. Indeed, Lenneth had come from an alternate future, to stop Lezard who came from that future as well. Arngrim had reincarnated in that future, and had a life as Lenneth’s Einherjar, one that was now erased. Knowing the truth, they went further in his world, found and reunited with Silmeria, who informed them of what he did to Odin. As they went further, they met him, but refused his offer to join his side as he revealed his one and true purpose in creating his world (which put at threat the existing worlds) wasn’t to save the future from Ragnarok as he pretended, but to get Lenneth, whom he obsessed over beyond the limits of imagination, all for himself. Lezard then captured Lenneth with his new powers, and turned the two others Valkyries into Crystal. Alicia, Rufus, Arngrim and Brahms only were left, and they devised a plan to kill Lezard, reclaims Odin’s weapon, and bring back stability to the worlds: merge the three Valkyrie’s souls into one vessel, Alicia, to create the one true Valkyrie, powerful enough to kill Lezard.
They proceeded to free Lenneth from her crystal before Lezard could merge his soul with her own; only for a short while was enough, allowing them to create the one Valkyrie. She defeated Lezard, but at the cost of her own life, meaning the death of the four beings composing her. As Lezard’s world collapsed without its energy source, Lezard himself, they proceeded to escape. Brahms asked Arngrim to become the new Guardian of the Dragon Orb, task he accepted, while Brahms decided to stay behind to die in this world. Rufus and Arngrim then used the fragment of the Water Mirror to go back to Valhalla and bring back stability to the worlds.
ABILITIES: Arngrim is a true warrior, one could say the battling skills are encrypted on his very soul as in both of his lives, he demonstrated to be an incredible warrior, able to kill anyone, be they demons, undead, or humans. He is weak to magic though, and gained the ability to defeat high-level demons only after becoming an Einherjar. Being that, it also means he is immortal and less susceptible to physical wound than a normal human being.
He wields a sword actually as big as himself; the height as to be around 160 cm. Nevertheless, its width is that of a regular sword, neither too thick, nor to thin. He is quite clearly a heavy warrior, meant to be able to sustain high damages in battle, all while inflicting terrible loses to the enemy. As Guardian of the Dragon Orb, he could theoretically use its power if he had it, enough power to destroy an entire set of world. Nevertheless, that’s extreme situation.
Being a treasure hunter and a mercenary, he also has a good sense of orientation, endurance, etc.
Final Blast
It is his final attack, his “Soul Crush” (limit break in FFs).
He charged quickly at the enemy, thrusting his sword into them once, what has the effect of creating whirlwind of flames around them. He then proceed to project the enemy up into the air, swinging twice his sword at the target, before pushing them to the ground, where the enemy explode in flames.

BIRTHDAY LOG: Yes
DREAM:
He was standing in the middle of a hall, holding a great sword in his hands. Everything around him looked precious; the walls appeared to be made out of pure gold, the ornament and decorations were made out of the most precious jewels one could imagine, a soft music was played in the background; if anything this place had to be heaven, a divine, sacred palace. Without a doubt, gods would feel at ease living here.
“Einherjar!” a woman’s voice said, firmly, with authority. He turned his head to her; the woman was wearing a black and golden armor, her hairs and eyes were dark purple and her stare was as cold as the golden walls surrounding them. He sighed and turned away from her, folding the sword on his back. “Come! It’s important!” she told him, stopping a few feet away from him.
“Not to me, it isn’t Hrist.” he replied defiantly and crossed his arms.
“What’s that?!” the woman replied angrily, frowning at this answer.
“You’re off to save Odin, right?” he turned his head to her “I don’t give a damn.”
The authority her face was displaying gave place to shock and surprise, and soon to sadness as she understood he wouldn’t help her, even though she was meant to have authority over him. He turned away from her and closed his eyes.
“It goes without saying, humans would be better off without him.” he added. As he opened his eyes, he could see two men walking to him. They both looked quite unusual. One of them had green hairs, a bow and strange clothes. The other was much taller, his skin was gray, his eyes red and his hairs spiky. He was holding a red orb, flames whirling around it. He looked, to say the least, demonic.
“Guess I can’t argue with that.” The green-haired man told him as they got close, then they both stopped walking, standing by his side. At this moment, the three of them could see another woman coming to them; she looked younger than Hrist and had long blonde hairs. Given her stature and her clothes, she was probably royalty, a princess or something. She didn’t say a word and passed them, standing to face Hrist. The three men turned to see Hrist as well, but she had changed. She was now wearing a blue armor, her hairs were much longer, braided and silver. Her face was softer, as were her blue eyes.
“I am not the Valkyrie you know.” she said, her voice much softer, different than Hrist’s. As she spoke, a light fog appeared, blurring out everything in the room, and the music ceased.
“No kidding.” he replied to the Valkyrie and shook his head. The Valkyrie turned her head to him and briefly nodded
“You will come to serve Me.” she affirmed.
“Huh?” he turned to the two other men, the green-haired one shrugged, while the demonic one frowned. He turned to him, staring for a few seconds, and then he handed the red orb to him. His eyes widened at that, but he took it without complaints. When he turned back to Valkyrie, she had changed once more; she was now blonde, with shorter hairs and a light purple armor. In fact, she looked a lot like the princess. The princess walked to her and took her hand.
“We should go now.” The blonde Valkyrie said to the princess. Like when the silver-haired Valkyrie had spoken, the room underwent a transformation. Everything turned silver, and as if covered in dust.
“Yes.” The princess answered firmly, and the blonde Valkyrie disappeared. The princess fell on her knee, surrounded by a halo of light, and underwent a transformation. Once she stood up, her eyes had turned golden, she looked overall more mature, her clothes were different and two wings of a pure white appeared on her back. Further in the room, behind the princess, a man appeared and looked dumbfounded at this transformation. His face was blurry and his word impossible to understand. He threw his weapons into the ground, and in a matter of second, magical waves of energy emitted from it, recovering the whole room with it.
The princess ran to him, and all that was heard was an insane, maniacal laughter before he two of them disappeared. The magical waves faded away, revealing what had happened to the hall. No gold, no silver, only gray. All that had been left by the counter of the two beings were ruins, the fog now thicker than before. A large, imposing spear, blurred in an halo of light was now remaining where the princess and the madman met moments ago. The green-haired man walked to the spear slowly.
“The world has become so twisted and distorted… Someone has to straighten it out. That someone is us.” The green-haired man said and grabbed the holy spear. He turned to the two other men, smiling lightly.
He took his word and threw it onto the ground, but the demon brought a hand on his shoulder.
“You have work to do. The task of repairing Midgard still...” he said, but his last worded faded away, unheard.
“What? You want me…?” he started, but he was interrupted as the demon threw a piece of broken mirror into the ground. Light came out of it, engulfing everything around them, nothing could be seen, nothing could be heard any more, save for the last word of the green-haired man, faintly heard.
“Let’s go.”
JOURNAL SAMPLE:
So, er, guess that’s in that book I gotta write?
Name’s Hrist, well, at least that’s what I remember. I just arrived, strange place, but at least looks kinda peaceful.
So, hi.
ASPIRATIONS: None really, his very nature is that of a mercenary, so he’ll just go along with the events and work for whoever has the best ideas / has the most to offer. If he makes friends, he’ll aim to protect them though.
