I'm not gonna say i defend the porn industry by any means...but, working at premier adult, I learned a couple of things that kind of shocked me...2 of the top 3 porn production companies are run by women, many of the women employed do the job because they love it (exhibitionists are a common breed) and I don't think pornogoraphy has nearly as much to do with the ridiculous standards society has for women these days, atleast not in comparison to the major media (movies, magazines, cable tv, even radio) most of the girls on the covers of the movies I used to deal with look awful, and you don't tend to see other girls trying to look like that

Yeah- The culture and mass media that projects it is current perpetuator of the problem.. but the problem must be looked at from an individual level. It isn't just porno. The pornography is a product of. We can't begin to draw moralistic value judgements on other people nor to act like someone who knows whats best for anyone else. The root of the problem is the dominator culture that is rooted in the perpetuation of the creation of tools for war and death instead of a partnership culture based on perpetuating all life. As for the masturbation/sexual gratification thing I feel as though that's a bit incorrect. Since sex can be engaged in without any emotion and even compulsively both parties won't always leave the table gratified. However, if someone truely cares about the other party they will absolutely see the sexual gratification of their partner through.

I really fail to see how women are suffering from pornography being that it contains virtually every type of woman and in no way disciminates since there is a market for each type. Granted it may in some ways "objectify" them, women every day objectify themselves on purpose to be an object of lust because they themselves desire the attention. If you are a woman who can honestly say you do not wishe to be desired I don't know what to tell you.

i never really thought about porn until i read TRANSFORMING A RAPE CULTURE which is a collection of essays and one of which was about porn. it really changed my opinion about porn, etc, and echoes a lot of what you just said. it's at the library. if you haven't read it- i'd reccomend it.
