A few weeks ago, I heard a story on NPR that surprised me because parts of it were very misleading. I wrote a letter expressing my concern, but also thought I’d share the concern here to see what others think.
I think Gregory Feifer’s
April 5th story on protests in the Ukraine grossly misrepresented the situation in Ukraine. In the story Feifer makes the statement: "Ukraine’s economy has grown significantly since the orange revolution, but the country is still struggling to emerge from the poverty and politics of its soviet past…" To me this implies that the orange revolution was good for growth. But really it was not so good. Prior to the orange revolution in November 2004 the GDP growth rates were: 9.3% in 2003, and 12% in 2004. After 2004, growth rates were: 2.5% in 2005 and 7% in 2006.*
Am I over-reacting by thinking this is a gross misrepresentation of the facts?
