Anniversary

Inspired by hugh_mannity , who notes today is St Crispin's Day, I am compelled to note it is also the 156th anniversary of the famous Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in the Crimean War.

Half a league, half a league,
  Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
  Rode the six hundred.

Ah yes, another example of the stunning brilliance of British military commanders. How we ever managed to maintain an empire, I do not know -- unless it was because our opponents were even more disorganised and short on smarts than we were.
