This is what it takes to make a GIF

So I just had a conversation with a new-to-tumblr person who reposted a bunch of my GIFs. And they were absolutely baffled as to why I was contacting them because they "just found them on Google Search" and had noooo clue that they weren't supposed to re-upload them. :/

Making GIFs takes work. It usually takes me an afternoon or morning to make one ( Read more... )

Ah, the two wrongs make me righteous logic! Did she have more followers than the sources too, making this behavior even MORE legit, because she was giving them (uncredited) "exposure"?

The one that annoyed me the most was the one who stole my GIFs and then added a text layer to them. So she had photoshop and knew how to use it! I just did all the tedious capping/sharpening/coloring for her. :/// Yeah, I stopped making GIFs in her preferred size unless they already had text on. Blocking was useless- she would just steal using a guest account.

Anything creative takes time and the effort should damn well be respected. I don't see why people don't understand this.

And yes, gifset making is exhaustive, and frustrating, and I don't know photoshop too well, so I use Corel PaintShop Pro and GIMP but they keep changing the software and I think they cut down the quality, so my gifs all look moderately awful these days...

It's a lot of work to make gifsets, let alone good ones.

*grr* people!

I think sometimes it's ignorance, but some people are just assholes on purpose. :/ I've had more than one user just ignore all communications of "hey, please stop taking my stuff and passing it off as yours." Incredibly frustrating.

ugh tumblr is the worst and it's so disheartening to make stuff and spend a lot of time on it and then someone just reposts it. It really enrages me and I stopped going into tags as much because I would hate seeing my stuff stolen. I also actually hate seeing people post my gifs on twitter as well because sometimes I want to do it first. (after that it's probably fair game)

FYI, I sharpen all frames at once does that not work for you? It still takes time but it's not manually sharpening each frame which is the worst. I used to use elements to make gifs and that was freaking awful.

I use PS CC, and I have an action that sharpens all frames at once, but only if the source file is a MP4 or AVI PS can play in its video player. So I can almost never use it.

I didn't know you made GIFs too! LJ shows such a different side of people. LOL
