So far...

So another five months passed since I last updated, of course. Since January I moved myself and my business to another city way at the tip of the country (you can hear gunfire from the bordering countries, that's how close to the border I am), let my hair grow long, and bought various things to help me with my work. So... lots of changes ( Read more... )

Naomi, we are of the same brain. I literally just emailed you :) good to see that some things never change!

And in terms of life we are both digging in and attempting to save. Ideally I'd love it to be for a mortgage, but we shall see!

I love having access to your life, creepy as that sounds, through Instagram.

Congrats on the big decisions and all of the changes that you have made recently. We're growing up, d'you reckon??

Lots of love xXx

Templa! Oopsy, I don't get comment notifications anymore.

Big Bang is not the stomping grounds of masters this year, unfortunately. Seems to have been taken over by teenagers with weak plots and no talent and newbies that have lost steam half way through the project. I'm sad to say that even one or two really great writers who pushed out awesome stories in the past have handed stories that needed editing or had vague outlines of a plot but fell short of fleshing one out. I'll wait for the end this year before I link you any.

Um . . . congratulations on the move? Sort of? Here's hoping you can get to Tel Aviv posthaste. It was a nice place, the bit I saw of it.

Sounds like business is booming along with the firearms next door, at least. I love your designs. They almost make me want to get married, except that then I'd be saddled with an unwanted husband for the rest of my life, so I guess I'll just have to admire them on the internet.

As for me, I finished my dissertation, got my Ph.D, am working a summer job teaching a mini-course on Jewish music through the Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership, and am on the market for a more permanent job, getting rejected left and right. Fun times. I do seem to be picking up some steam on the lecture circuit, though, and I'm getting some stuff ready for publication. Next up: applications for a job in New Zealand and a postdoc in Germany.

Hey, there are always divorce ceremonies, they need their decorative texts too:)

CONGRATS ON YOUR PHD PONY! Wow, already you're planning on more studying, how do you have the stamina?
Going from the States to NZ, that's an amazing change! I wish you luck on the job applications, that's going to be one heck of a journey to write about!

I have no idea how hacks can get these really bad young adult books published and sold, and someone as talented as you don't. It blows my mind, honestly. WHAT IS THAT?!?!?

I'm still idly looking at apartment listings in TA. The real-estate market is absolutely bonkers in Israel. Maybe I shouldn't spend my life's savings on a place, who knows what will happen here in a few years... Or those are just my commitment issues talking.

Thank you! And yes, planning more research. That's basically what Ph.Ds in the humanities do. We get those degrees because we're just that kind of people who will research endlessly.

Getting the job in New Zealand would be an enormous, exciting change, but I actually think I have a better shot at getting the fellowship in Germany. I'm planning a project for it based on a question that my advisor asked me (basically: I'm really curious about [this], but I don't have time to research it. You, on the other hand, have both the time and the specific specialty. . .), and the more I get into researching this project, the more fascinating it appears. I'm not a hundred percent convinced that the answer will be as clear-cut as my advisor was hoping for, but I do think there are some interesting things to be teased out.
