Hehehe. Raw code! Quick, snapshot it before it gets away!
And, even though I believe homosexuality to be wrong and the like, I'd get up and leave too. If I didn't leave, I'd stare down the teacher with my Eyebrow of Doom (see: below) throughout the entire class. My beliefs don't allow me to impose judgement upon others, regardless of how I feel toward the act. Zealots who wish to do otherwise frustrate me.
Which is why I put it behind an Lj-cut. I know many people disagree with me on the gay marriage issue. I don't want to shove my beliefs in their face because a) it would make me a hypocrite and b) chances are, me being obnoxious about my beliefs would only turn the other people off more. Part of being a libertarian is knowing and truly accepting that not everyone will agree with you and furthermore, they shouldn't have to. IE, Different =/= bad.
... And also, forgive me if I'm wrong about this since I'm not very knowledgable about any religion at all, isn't the New Testament basically about accepting that others can be different without necessarily being evil? Tolerance, treating others as you'd like to be treated and all that good stuff? How, even if you are doing something wrong, your God forgives it if you see that it's wrong?
*shrug* Again, far be it for me to pass judgement on something I'm almost completely ignorant of but it seems to me like those zealots are going against the message of the religion the claim to defend.
Well, it's a lot deeper than that, although at the same time the overall message is meant so that even a child can understand it. I could go into the whole 'everybody sins all day every day, even the Christians--it's the human way' schpeal, but it's rather irrelevant to the point.
Yes, the main message centers around loving God above all, accepting the love and sacrifice Christ gave to humanity, and loving your neighbor as yourself. The last bit is more because we, as fellow humans, have no merit to be judging others. That's left to God, as he can see into the hearts of all--something which we cannot do. So the only option that we have left is to pursue God in obedience and love others as He would love us.
I hope that makes sense for a very brief summarization?
