Walking Wounded

I've learned my lesson. I won't walk the treadmill barefoot any more. My ankle started hurting yesterday morning (after walking), enough that I asked my beauteous and oft-praised jungle_goddess to take me to our local Care Station (a local ambulatory, no appointment needed, medical facility). The X-rays looked clean, thank goodness, but I'm going to have to take ( Read more... )

Thwacks on the noggin' aren't necessarily unpleasant, depending on the part that's doing the thwacking. :-)

Thanks - I do feel a lot better than I did yesterday. I actually do have a few pairs of comfortable sneakers, but I foolishly ignored Connie's exhortation to wear them. I guess I'm not as young as I used to be. :-)

How can you help me feel better? You can help me and that wonderful woman of mine feel better by joining us in New Orleans again this November.

Well, you asked. :-)

Dumb question here, but how did you hurt your ankle walking barefoot on the treadmill? Does the treadmill not have "give" like walking in sneakers would? Of is it just too hard of a surface? I dont have one, just the excersize bike, so I dont understand the difference. (You could have plead ignorance ;) )

Do take care though. You might also want to try to alternate heat and cold compresses on the ankle for a while too.

The treadmill does have some cushion, but not nearly as much as sneakers and socks. Plus, I had it at a decent incline, which shortens the vertical distance of my steps. It was a brisk walk (3.6 mph), and a decent amount of time (90 minutes). The pounding must have taken its toll.

I have a stationary bike, too, which I use six mornings per week. In fact, I did the treadmill after the bike (I wanted more exercise, since it was rainy outside and I hadn't gone anywhere). I don't use the treadmill nearly as often (a fact which may have contributed to the injury, too, though I do a lot of walking outside).

Thanks for the advice. It's feeling better, though. I'm sure it will be completely asymptomatic by Thursday.
