For you Kindle fans and e-book reader fans in general, what are digital rights issues like with the e-books? Are they tied to readers, or can they be stored as files, backed up, used on different readers, etc.?
I recently owned a Kindle 2 and finally sold it off after the screen on the first two broke and I managed to get a third one. I didn't like that the 2nd generation Kindle got rid of the sd card slot--one of the reasons I initially bought it.
I found that while the additional internet feature and being able to use it anywhere they had AT&T service at was nice, but I couldn't get things like google maps to work on it when I wanted it too so it did me no good.
I've upgraded to an Archos 7 Home Tablet which is cheaper and will do everything that an ipad can do and more for about $300 less. It runs on the Android OS and if you get the "internet tablet" then you can buy an upgrade that will allow you to record on to it via DVR.
That Archos looks interesting, Cynthia. Thanks for the tip! And the home tablet looks like a much better bargain than the Internet media tablet. I'm going to explore some of the reviews.
If you get the home tablet it has 8 gigs storage, but it takes micro sd and will let you hook up to your computer. (Plus there's always online storage like google docs.)
Your best bet is to jailbreak the current OS on it then you get access to the Google & Android Marketplace. (You'd just upload a different image on to it of the same OS. I've done it with no problems.)
