I must be hungry

My last entry was about potables. This one is about comestibles, sort of. For those of you familiar with some of the amazing dishes offered in Scotland (haggis, deep-fried Mars bars, deep-fried pizza, etc.), the following won't be nearly as surprising. For the rest, feast your eyes on chocolate-covered pork fat! :-)

I've read that salo is salted pork fat, so I assume that it's been cooked first. However, I confess that I'm not certain, being a kitchen cretin.

Would it make a difference in whether or not you'd try it, Stacy? :-)

I must confess, if it has been cooked - I might try it =)

Maybe Fogo de Chao will add it to their already impressive selection.

Would it be a salad bar item? :-)

Aieee!! Sorry we hadn't gotten back to you yet, Noah. I got wrapped up in completing his birthday presents. :)

Yuppers, either the weekend of 10th-11th or 17th-18th or 24th-25th is fine with us. We can't wait to see both of you again (and perhaps the kids too!!)!

No worries; I knew that you were a bit busy this past weekend. :-)

The weekend of the 10th/11th it is! We'll probably arrive on Friday evening, and head home on Sunday afternoon.

So where can we get chocolate covered salo in Philly? Reading Terminal (heh, heh - get it? "Terminal?") Market, maybe? :-)

It almost sounds like a food challenge that could be used in Survivor.

Good point! Although I'd eat ten of those before I'd eat one live insect. :-)

Hey - if you're going to have treif, have treif! :-)

I wonder if there's a version with beef fat instead of salo, and non-dairy chocolate. I smell a marketing opportunity! :-)

Actually, you smell beef-fat and chocolate that's been out in the sun too long.

phew!

Ah, it's no weirder than chocolate covered pretzels.

Which I also don't eat.

I've actually had, and enjoyed, pretzels covered in chocolate. Perhaps it's because both are well known snack foods in my experience, but salo is not.

Yeah, I think that's it. I don't eat it, but it seems like only a small step from crackling or pork rinds, which many people eat, to salo. Stick chocolate on that and you've fatty, salty, chocolatey stuff. I'd probably eat it sooner than deep fried pizza, actually.

Oh yes, I got your e-mail. It made me laugh a lot.

It probably is just a small step from pork rinds (which I enjoy, particularly the flavored ones) to salo (which I suppose might taste pretty good). However, I don't think I'd try a chocolate covered pork rind.

As for the email, thanks. But does this mean that I shouldn't expect your resume and salary history any time soon? :-)
