Would someone please tell Katie Couric that she's in Raleigh and not Raleigh-Durham?

Raleigh and Durham may share an airport, but they're not at all the same city, and lumping them in together like that does a disservice to both of them.

television, annoyances

Yeah, but at least Bryan and College Station but into each other. It's much like my (and many others') annoyance with "Dallas/Ft. Worth". Raleigh and Durham are seperated by distance (they don't touch) and are definitely different culturally, much like Dallas and Ft. Worth are.

Ive never been to Raleigh and Durham. But I dont mind saying D/FW or Dallas/Fort Worth because I grew up in Hurst and even though they are decidely two diferent cities, still they are one huge metroplex and if you can find a blade of grass in between the two, you're doing lucky. Nowadays they have a communter train between FW and Dallas that wasnt there when I lived there.

trust me: if you come to Raleigh or Durham and refer to being in "Raleigh-Durham", people will look at you mighty funny. Or they might decide to give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume you're talking about the airport.

peace,

Why is Katie Couric in "Raleigh/Durham" in the first place? Did something interesting actually happen here? ")

She was anchoring from Raleigh the day the "Duke Lacrosse" case was dropped.

It amused me that their tape editors made a point to edit in clips of her sitting and asking a question at the actual press conference. She's taken a lot of slack for not having any reporting credentials -- I guess this was an effort to bolster her "street cred" so to speak.
