Who is serving in todays military?

OK, so this was largely supplied by my brothers and sisters in the Army. They referrence all services here and there, but primarily the data seems to have been drawn from our nations largest service and that's ok because the gist is the same. Long, but very interesting. I need to add this to "memories" to refer back to when folks elsewhere decide to bring up the argument again that only the poor or the "not so smart because they can't get into an ivy league school" folks are the only ones enlisting of their own free will.

I get that a lot. Especially when I was a recruiter and I almost get the feeling from some of the people we talk to that approach us from the point of view that if they fail everywhere else they can come to the military. I don't want them.
Truth is roughly 74% of the people we talk to across the nation do not qualify! That is a staggering figure when you look at our target market of 17-24 year old males, only 26% actually qualify based on mental, moral and physical standards. Pathetic!
