[Not mine. So totally not mine. The character initially belongs to the dude who made the TV show in the first place. Not mine. Not mine.]
Ethan Matthew Hunt was born and Raised in Madison Wiscounsin, the only child of Margaret Ethan Hunt and James William Hunt, Farmers. The Salt of the Earth that America was built on.
Growing up on a farm was a combination of both old-timey nostalgia and genuine love for his birthplace. Their family owned several acres, and Ethan can happily remember riding on the back of his father's tractor as a young child-and getting burned to a chrisp for his trouble. James and Margaret sought to instill a need to work hard in their son, so his duties included taking care of the Farm's numerous cat and dog population, feeding the chickens (and collecting the eggs) "Insert your typical farm chore here" sort of stuff throughout his elementary, middle, and high school years.
When it came to academics, Ethan was a fairly indifferent student. Highly intelligent, he'd succeed with little effort and put his mind into the next challenge, which, in Ethan's case was showing off. During his tenure in Elementary School he was written up for breaking his arm falling off the jungle gym, breaking his leg and his egg during the school's "egg drop" tradition. In high school, while he wasn't a rule breaker, he regularly flaunted authority. When caught (Which was often) Ethan would lie through the nose and flash a brilliant smile, or argue how his cause was somehow absolutely important to the school or to his own future.
Mental tests would list him as "Narcacisstic with an intense need for attention." However his family background had clearly illustrated an intense devotion to duty. The longer that he's with the agency the more he-retreats, splitting his own life, personal and professional, into two distinct seperate hemispheres.
On the one hand he's Ethan Hunt. An Employee of the Department of Motor Vehicles in Virginia who does consulting work with Langley. Attractive, intelligent, he tends to be a bit withdrawn and secretive, but is otherwise friendly and outgoing. He watches sports, joins his "co-workers" for games whenever he can. He Rock-Climbs regularly, travelling to Utah. He's presumed to be religious.
And on the other he's Agent Ethan Hunt, CIA's IMF division. The "Ghosts within the company". A very real "master of disguise", Ethan can blend in, disappear, and avoid authorities or individuals that he wants to in any part of the world. Trained by IMF to perform the missions that the CIA and other agencies can't handle, Ethan is trained to manipulate individuals into doing the agency's work.
He will not hesitate to kill you if he considers you a very viable threat.
Even as a child, Ethan had been interested in acting. His Mother loved renting videos from the locale blockbuster, so he grew up on the classic works of Astaire, Bogart, and the golden age of Hollywood. He amused his classmates and neighbors by immitating scenes from these classical films and television shows.
His real interest in drama began in high school, when a girlfriend was trying out for the role of a geisha in the Drama Club's production of "Teahouse of the August Moon" She didn't get the part (A decided strike of irony) but he was selected for the lead. From there he continued to act, with notable starring roles in "12 Dreams", "Devil's Luck", and The Original Work "Land of the South."
His drama interest continued into college, where after being accepted into GeorgeTown University (on a full drama scholarship) He studied acting, classical theater, and accents, thinking to get an agent and head out west to Hollywood.
One evening as he and his friends were returning home from a rehersal he was approached by a man named "Frank" who proceeded to make him an offer. The CIA needed a "few good men" and he fit the bill that they were looking for. Ethan didn't accept intially (He really did want to act) However a week later his father was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Realizing that the only way he'd be able to help support his family would be to accept the man's offer-especially after the man offered to pay for both his training and have the government help with his family's medical expenses.
Once at Langley, Ethan found a niche he never would have imagined. He revealed an aptitude for languages that rivaled most of his classmates, learning a good chunk of the European languages along with Japanese, Mandarin, and Cantonese. He was immeaditely selected for "covert" training, and was taught to use his dramatic training to "become" any individual he could for use in a mission. Ethan completed his skills by pulling off the greatest prank ever, Posing as the CIA director and refusing to shake hands with any of his graduating class.
However, if you ask Hunt about that, You won't get an affirmative or a negative. His own superiors still don't know if he was behind it.
Three years after graduating and joining the company, Hunt was recruited by Jim Phelps, his handler, for a black ops agency within the CIA. These guys were ghosts, invisible even to their own colleagues, and the ones that the Secretary of Defense sent into a hotzone when it was impossible for the CIA to "go there directly."
The problem was, the "company" had become too public to get anything accomplished. Ethan's new employers were the true shadow government, deep cover agents that could be sent to any part of the globe at any time on assignment. The Impossible Mission Force, or IMF.
Four years into his assignment with IMF he was disavowed by both the company and his own agency for supposedly being a "mole" feeding covert information to an arms dealer named "Max". It was revealed that his handler, Jim Phelps and his wife Sarah Phelps, were responsible for the leak. Ethan killed Jim after Jim killed Sarah. He was reinstated with benefits, however after that-he took a long vacation.
Ethan has only recently returned to work at the time of his enterance to the game. His current operation "Operation Reaper" was done with full cooperation of the German government, asking for IMF's help in ferriting out a mole in their weapon's program.
Likes: The life of a deep cover covert Operative is one filled with Glamour and Romance, However they have very little time for personal hobbies and/or recreation since they're on call 24 hours a day. What he likes varies depending on each character, but personally he enjoys Tequila and Carne Asada Burritos in addition to Comics (He's a big fan of Dark Horse) . Ethan's love of the movies hasn't diminished, although he rarely finds time to make it to a theater. (He's particularly fond of French and Czech Cinema)
Dislikes: ...If he doesn't like it, he's going to tell you.
