One of the things I have noticed about Goodreads

and other sites where readers can submit reviews is that ever time you have a series of books, the later in the series the book is, the better the rating. At first, I would get hopeful that this meant the series I started gets better with each book. Then it occurred to me. If you read the first book and don't like it, you are less likely ( Read more... )

You have to be a real prick to continue reviews of a series you don't like. Not that I (or Kindred) would do such a thing.

Oh, I'm enough of a masochist to try to give some series far more of a chance than they deserve. I have one series I bought up to book 10 and then told myself I had more self-respect. (I read up to fourteen...) Some do improve - but I rate based on how I felt about the book without relation to the other books in the series.
