Really, considering what we were covering, it could have been a lot worse and I'm glad that Malcom suggested we stay and finish things up. Now we don't have to go through the changeover process next week too.
I've come to understand that thee are some things in the SCA that people really don't want to get wrong, because the consequences can be all out-of-proportion.
An example from another kingdom, years ago: if you're marshalling Crown Tournament, you want to make sure your own membership is paid up. Because, whoever wins Crown, there'll be people who wanted somebody else to win, and they'll argue the tournament was invalid, and they'll be right.
I think that getting a Baronial Succession issues in place is one of those things. Just ask the Barony of Ruantallan.
(I debated whether or not to post that link. I decided to do so, not because I think one side or the other is in the right, but to demonstrate how much chaos and damage can ensue when these kinds of things go wrong.)
