Paperclips are not an endangered species, nor an expensive luxury item that cannot be replaced, nor is there a dire shortage of them in the world. Stay tuned for the day I get so bored at work, I open the first Paper Clip Art Gallery. I think I could host a pretty good paper clip sculpture show in the bin above my computer.

This reminds me of a temp job I had 12 years or so ago, at a large bank, where they were having a contest to see how few office supplies they could use. Before I got there, post-it notes had been added to the endangered species (i.e., the "do not purchase anymore because they are wasteful") list. My job entailed going through and cross-referencing large stacks of print-outs of the form feed kind, meaning they were all connected, dot-matrixy stacks of paper. This was at least the 2nd circle of hell without post-its. What made me laugh more than anything is that I ended up using paper clips for a lot of it, before they, too, were banished.
