Dad has finally tracked down my camera.  It must have been sent "signature required" because, even though I never got a note from the courier telling me they were trying to deliver it, it was sent back to the company he ordered it from.  He has asked them to ship it to him (since he works from home and can sign for it) and it should be there in

probably would've been worse had it gone the other way -- I've had more than a few "signature required" items sent to me that have been left on my porch, with nary a signature to be had anywhere... the one time I complained about it, I was told that the driver has discretion to leave the package without a signature

"required"; I do not think that word means what they think it means :-)
