Posts to your LJ and status messages on your Facebook are not the same as direct communication with someone, especially when you're inviting people to do something.  If you want to be sure that someone actually received the message that A) you are planning something and B) that someone is welcome to join you, you need to call or email or say

I second that, especially when you're not actually inviting everyone to do something, but a select few and admonish everyone (invited or not) for not responding to you.
