Because of your post, I ate 2 tomatoes last night.
The best tomatoes I ever had were our neighbor's when I was in high school. She went out of town and told us to help ourselves to her tomatoes since they would ripen while she was gone, and otherwise they'd go to waste. It was hard getting a ripe tomato before a bird did, though, because they were the sweetest and juiciest (and big!) tomatoes I've ever had in my life. And this was like 10 years ago.

I'm thinking of growing some of my own/ nothing beats the freshness of straight off the vine.
