Honestly? Take the dog to his parents' house. I mean, I assume that Brian knows you don't love the dog. You keeping it while he's away may breed resentment within you. Take the offer and appreciate that he's being sensitive to your feelings.

I'm not really a dog lover, either, but I lived with them for years because my parents are. They drive me bonkers for many reasons. You're already doing any "wifely" duty simply by accepting the dog at all in this marriage, yeah? Take the vacation you're being offered. :)

Maybe compromise, have the parents watch the dog for a few days to give you a break? (Sorry don't know how long Brian is gone)
