a challenge/request

I have the following problem with telemarketers/customer-service reps: given the low bandwidth of telephone lines, my speech impediment and my unusual and long last name, it takes forever to communicate the spelling of my last name over the phone. oh man, I have trouble too. usually I'm just an annoying smart ass though and I say things like "Like D, as in dachsund (sp?), you know, it's a type of dog" or "O, as on origami."
people on the phone hate me.

1. Wherever possible, your last name is now Smith. Think how much easier it will make your life. Or just M. Or Muk.
2. My middle initial is N. When they hear that, they say "Is that N for Nancy?" No, my middle name is not Nancy, dammit.
