So yeah the consumer in me has enough crap in the want list to drain my savings.

  • Golf clubs. Found possibly a good buy.
  • 30" Monitor (2K resolution FTW!)
  • iPad... though rumors about Mac code-signing on 10.7 doesn't sit right with me.
I'm banking on us finishing at least one house project this week and maybe I'll pick up an 'invisible shelf' to put ( Read more... )

Every blog I've read suggests the dude who started that rumour is basically a crazy person.

Also someone emailed Steve Jobs and asked if there was going to be a Mac App Store and if apps for Macs would have to be approved by Apple and Mr. Jobs' response was: Nope.

I'm glad to hear that but it isn't still beyond the pale.
If that did come to pass I would find something other than the Mac.

The 'pay to play' model of software development is horrible.

Oh yeah, I was going to post that I have a 30" monitor at work now, and it's meh. I really preferred two 24" side by side.

When I used a desktop PC many moons ago, dual monitors were great.

Now that I'm on a laptop I can only reliably use one external monitor and I'm finding I use the laptop monitor less and less when attached. My screen is typically FILLED with stuff and I find that I can only focus my attention on one monitor while the others have info I _need_ less.

I've tried a USB->DVI adaptor and a few other similar hacks (money I'll never see again. :P) and they are fine but driver support was a pain.

If I had a desktop I'd want 2x24" but on my laptop 1x30" is ideal.
I have the same setup at home as I do at the office (since I use the same machine in both places) and I have a 'travel' version of the setup for when I'm in the other offices. Then again I've probably spent WAY too much trying in vane to be more productive.

My laptop at work has a docking station, so theoretically I could have dual out, then use the laptop too.

I'm used to being able to maximize drawings/documents easily with the dual monitors. Now I find I have to do some shuffling and resizing and it's a pain. However, when viewing schedules the 30" will be nice to be able to see longer periods of time. I'm still working on the resolution vs. clarity, as I sit pretty close to it.
