“Gun!” Don pushes Charlie to the ground. “Get down!”
After the gunfight is over and the shooter secured, he returns to find Charlie lying, arms protecting his head. “Okay. You can get up. Quit screwing around. Charlie?”
Charlie rolls onto his back, eyes wide with fear and something else. He lifts his hand and stares at it. “Donnie?” he whispers.
“What?” Don takes Charlie’s hand and looks at it. “Oh, God.” He drops to his knees and pulls at his brother’s black jacket. “Where are you hit?” The red blot is spreading on the white shirt. “David! Call an ambulance!”
