Just thought I should attempt my own challenge.

Kara Kal-El bustled around the kitchen fixing breakfast.

"Colby! Do you want pancakes or waffles?" the Girl from Krypton yelled up the stairs.

"What if I'm in the mood for French toast?" Colby called back down the stairs.

Kara rolled her eyes. "Colby Daniel Granger! Stop being a brat! You know I haven't had a chance to get to the store, and you've been pretty busy, too!"

Colby bounded down the stairs. "What does shopping have to do with having French Toast for breakfast?"

Without saying anything, Kara answered him by pulling the trash can from under the sink and displaying the almost full loaf of green encrusted bread. "A clever scientist might be able to turn that into penicillin. Assuming said scientist ever had any spare time."

"Well, now I know why I almost never eat at home," Colby said, sighing.

Kara gave him a stern look. "No, this is what happens when you always eat out, Mr. Granger. We wind up wasting food and money." She started to put the trash can back under the sink, but had second thoughts.

"Here," she said. "Take out the trash while I fix waffles."

"Hey!" Colby protested. "What happened to me choosing what we have for breakfast?" He picked up the trash can and wrinkled his nose at the smell. "And what is in here? That's just nasty."

"I cleaned out the refrigerator while you were oversleeping," she said sweetly. "And you forfeited your right to choose breakfast by being a smart aleck."

"Me? Did you just say I'm smart?" Colby teased.

Kara rolled her eyes and gave him a shove towards the door. "Empty that trash or you will have to get your own breakfast. Preferably somewhere between here and a grocery store!"

Colby allowed himself to be herded outside. "Do I get to choose how the eggs are cooked?" he demanded. "I want scrambled eggs!"

"No, you don't get to choose anything," Kara replied. "And I know darn well you prefer poached eggs!"

Colby sighed and resigned himself to the fact that his attempt at reverse psychology had probably backfired on him. He dumped the contents of the trash can and headed back inside. The smell was heavenly. Waffles and poached eggs resting on artichoke hearts and covered in spinach and hollandaise sauce.

Last time she'd made it to the store, Kara had apparently indulged in some real maple syrup, not the faintly maple flavored corn syrup that was usually labeled as 'table syrup' or 'breakfast syrup' nowadays.

"You're too good to me," Colby said.

"I am well aware of that," Kara smirked.

He tried to savor every bite, but wound up inhaling the whole thing.

Kara laughed. "It's a good thing I'm fast or you would have gobbled mine down, too."

Colby smiled at her. "I would never gobble down anything that belonged to you, my sweet," he said.

"Oh, really?" Kara challenged.

"Really," Colby asserted. "Now, you..." his smile became a wicked grin. "You, I might gobble down!"

Kara feigned fear. "Oh, my," she looked towards the stairway leading to the bedrooms. "I am so scared, whoever will protect me?"

Colby wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned in for a kiss.

Her pager went off.

His cell phone rang.

They sighed in unison.

"Damn!" Colby said. "Sometimes I think they've got a camera in here..."

"You'd better check when you get back," Kara answered absently.

"I'll do just that," Colby said to her. To his phone he said. "Yeah, Don, whaddya got?" He sighed again. "Figures. No, I've been up a while. Sure, I can grab some donuts and coffee on my way in."

He hung up. "This could take a while," he told her.

Kara nodded. "I have a heart that's a match for one of my patients," she said. "Can you give me a lift? I can get one of the nurses to drive me back."

Colby nodded. "Sure," he said. As soon as his wife was ready, Colby gently lifted her up and flew the famous tranplant surgeon from Krypton to her hospital to save a life.
