I have this scene stuck in my head where charlie tells someone (ian) where to shoot. i think charlie was been held hostage. does anyone konw this

This sounds so familiar - I read a similar one a couple weeks before you posted. I've tried searching for it, but cannot find it.

IIRC, in the one I read Charlie didn't actually appear. It was a drabble or doubledrabble, I think. Edgerton shows up at a hostage situation, and is told one of the people inside is a professor/FBI consultant and realizes it's Charlie. He says try to open up a line of communication to Charlie so Charlie can tell him where to shoot. It's the closing line of the fic.

But I cannot find this fic. I'm not sure it's the one you're looking for, but I thought I'd at least chime in that it sounds familiar. If I can find it, I'll post a link.

I'm guessing you're talking about a fic, but...
In season 5 episode 23 there's a scene at the end where this happens, it's when Amita is kidnapped and Charlie and Amita come up with a plan for Ian to shoot the bad guy and get everyone out alive.
