life fits together so much better when you understand the things around you, and i suppose now ive got a greater understanding of the phraise "knowledge is power." our whole lives were taught to be pawns- were bread, not only employees for a job, but employees for the government and all other institutions which collect money from us. the sad ( Read more... )

My understanding of the forming of the corporation was that since overseas shipping at the time was, as you said, a very risky venture, other people would join in to spread the risk around and make it less damaging. One rich guy would probably not fund a shipping company just because if the ship goes down or gets jacked or whatever, he's responsible for it himself. He gets to keep all the profits should it succeed, but he pays for all the loss should it fail. The corporation was a way to make the venture less risky, and therefore more shipping was possible. Instead of one man putting forth, say, 10,000 for a ship, crew, stores for the crew, and cargo to sell (which would lead to minimal shipping due to the risk), Corporations allowed a thousand people to contribute 10 dollars and get the same thing. If you invest and it succeeds, you get a share of the profits called a "dividend" based on what you put in initially. If it fails, it's not a terrible loss because everyone only loses ten bucks ( ... )

hmm, i see the point- but i guess my problem is, i could care less about those people. would i be pissed if i had a small business, and wallmart stomped me? yes i would be, but id understand it- they are top dog, so hey, good for them- ill start up elsewhere. poor people are poor because they are doing things wrong. its their fault they are poor, (weather they be dumb, fininacialy illeterate, addicted to something, or just afraid of risks ( ... )

That entire paragraph is based on the assumption that everyone starts out on the same level and people move up or down based on their own actions. Which isn't true. Most people never leave the financial class that they're born into. It's not easy in this country, but it's MUCH easier here than it is in countries like Brazil ( ... )

cattle? hahah

your right, with your devine view on economics and business managment, you oughta drop out right now and fire a business up. lets make it happen, lets see which one of ours goes public first.

davis, who gives a damn about india? i dont want to go there, i dont have friends of family there, i dont plan on doing business there, i dont care about their country, relegion, shitty subhuman animal people, or anything. if india fell off the face of the earth tomorow, i wouldent lose any sleep- but good point. obviously both you and nick are strong liberals, and ovbiously an argument between us will go nowhere, because ovbiously, myself, and the majority of americans, are right and you are wrong.

im sure u guys think the same thing, so u go aheand and demand successfull peopl support lazy poor people, an ill keep more of what i earn.

long live kerry! second place loser.

The idea that human life has value isn't really a newfangled liberal idea. Nor am I a "strong" liberal.

In fact, reading this entire thing over again, you're coming off like a borderline idiot, so for the sake of ceasing all hostilities, I'm going to start over and pretend like your post was about kittens.

Hay Steve, long time no see! Cool post, I like Kittens too.

look, no lying here- i hate you both. not so much davis as i do you, nick.

critisize me all you want, but i have well over 100 friends, i have dated absolutley beautiful girls, and im totally content with my life.

and thats one thing that both of you know you cant contest.
if you think otherwise, remeber mine and sharys partys, remeber emily and julee and merrily, remeber noel and bailey-

thats my rationale, so no matter what a coupple of people like you think, (whos opinions to me are worth dirt, because this happens pretty much monthly), the way i act works for me.

nick, good luck with your future. marshall- good luck growing up.

and im positive ill never see both of you again-

and ps: im hunting your brother.

With all that going for you, it seems strange that you are so insecure about someone disagreeing with you. You are the only person I know that would say "Your opinion is worth dirt to me" with "I hate you" in the same paragraph. Your hate gives me power.

Figurative power. It's not like Star Wars where the Emperor says "Your hate gives me power" and he's talking about literal power cuz the more Luke hates him, the more the Emperor can shoot fucking lightning out of his hands.

Once again I question your sobriety. Out of your well over 100 friends, how many do you truely care for? Name them, even. I'm not asking if or how they influenced you or changed your life. Just the fact that any of your 100 peons you call friends could influence Steven Cook the Great. That's some insanity. I actually remember all those people you asked me to. I remember meeting Emily this year in English and she said "I think I know you from Patrick's house," and I said "Yeah, I know you from Steve, kinda, but I didn't want to say that at first." She thanked me and asked me not to mention it again. I remember telling Julee her hair looked fabulous and her telling me that Paris Hilton's stylist cut it. I remember Merrily tell me more than a few stories, one of a recent event, that are less than flattering about yourself. That's the most important one I remember, but apparently that's just what I think. I remember Noel in all her naivity and how much she's grown up since you. I remember Baily and how nice she is despite her not being ( ... )

how many do i really care for? jesus, id say one out of 10- making about 10 friends i actually concider close. niether of us will argue that what i did to mer was pretty shitty- i know it was, but i did it- infact, i screwed julee over pretty well too. im not proud of it, but it happend. they say in the end, you should allways follow your heart and listen to your instinct ( ... )

Well, ya see, Mer and I are friends. Wait, that's fuckin good friends. There'd be no such thing as a second shot so to speak with Mer, because to be honest, there wasn't much of a first shot. I wouldn't really be damned either way because I have a badass friend and a badass girlfriend. I'm not here to preach to you about evil ways or any other kind of bullshit, I was just letting you know that some of the things you seemed to be bragging about in your defense didn't really get your point across to me (which I'm still missing, by the way. And to be 100% clear cut, I am well aware that you have (and the ways that you have) influenced how I am and live today. You probably have more than most of the people I know. I'm not contesting any of that. But let me ask you this. You said you should follow your heart and listen to your instinct. Well was it heart or instinct that led you to invite her surfing? Was it heart or instinct that led you to hate Nick? Was it, blah blah blah blah? And then it kind of continues for a while.

"and shouldent let some guy in orlando who ill never see again and works at a burger stand tell me what is and isnt."

If I lived in your guest bedroom (assuming you have one) and I worked as the President's personal assassin and homework-doer, would you let me tell you what is and isn't?

yes. if you had more of a potential future than i did, (which you might, its to early to say at this point- i can only make predictions), id heed your advice or opinions that much more.

PRIORITIES, IN MY MIND:

MONEY

love
friendship (equal to love)

Then about 50 other things...

then leading a moralistic life.
