A sudden spurt of activity

All on my friends list (with the notable exception of jigsawpig) have started writing masses of stuff.  So I'd better do something myself I suppose.

I actually do have a bit of news.

I was at the CHUV yesterday to see the transplant folks to finalise my admission to the waiting list.  It was quite informative, and nowhere near as aggressive as my last visit, back in December 2005.  I was issued with a pager and the instructions on how to use it.  Also further interviews and explanations concerning the transplant itself.  Some stuff I really didn't want to hear about.  For example, when I wake up after the surgery I will still be "intubated", and in this condition will undergo intensive physiotherapy.  Apparently I will have to learn all over again how to use my lungs, as all nerves have been severed (they don't yet know how to repair nerves severed during the transplant).  This will last from between twenty-four and forty-eight hours.  There will also be physio to learn how to cough and clear the lungs.  Again, due to lack of sensation in the lungs, I will have to undergo extensive training on how to force an expectorating cough. It seems that I will never know that I have a lung congestion, so it is essential to cough anyway several times a day.

I've also been buying some random DVDs, most of them turning out to be a disappointment.  I have at last acquired the complete Black Adder (O Joy) and have just finished season one.

Last night watched Ark, which was destroyed, in my opinion by a lack of budget.  Some scenes, often critical, were clearly unfinished.  Final touches to texture or atmosphere were simply omitted, resulting in plastic décor intruding on otherwise expertly rendered action.  Still, some notable technical progress, particularly in the realms of machinery.

The night before I endured the Sigourney Weaver comedy vehicle GalaxyQuest.  Lots of very good pastiche that somehow just didn't come together to make a good movie.  A pity really.

Tonight I shall start on Aeon Flux, which arrived this morning.

And all the while waiting for the pager to beep at me...
