peaches_n_kream Sungmin hummed merrily as he drove the black vehicle down the street at a leisurely pace. It was two in the morning, and there were no other cars on the street, much less people to witness anything that might have been out of the ordinary.
“We really hit the jackpot this time,” crowed Shindong from the passenger seat. “A million big ones. That bank won’t even know what hit it until it opens tomorrow.”
Sungmin grinned at his best friend and partner-in-crime and flipped his black hair out of his eyes. “We could retire to Fiji now. Can you imagine? Endless stretches of beach, drinking pina coladas while sunbathing all day, millions of gorgeous girls in bikinis flaunting their goods.”
“Hmm,” hummed Shindong, a similar smile spreading on his lips. “Like a dream come true. But you know,” he said, shooting Sungmin a knowing glance, “You say that every time we score big, but we never actually carry through with the plans.”
“I know,” chuckled Sungmin as he turned the corner. “It’s just that the word ‘Fiji’ has a nice ring to it. Besides, knowing us, we’d get bored in a week and go back to robbing banks.”
“Nuh-uh,” Shindong denied. “Trust me, you would not get bored of the girls.”
Sungmin made to answer, but a glowing sign caught his eye. “Look, 7-Eleven,” he pointed out, slowing as they approached the convenience store. “I wonder what poor sap is stuck with the graveyard shift.”
“Probably being held up as we speak,” scoffed Shindong.
Sungmin peered into the large glass windows. He blinked in surprise, taken aback. Instead of the half-dead, balding man manning the counter as he expected, there was a young brunette talking animatedly on a cell phone. Without thinking, Sungmin slowed the car to a stop and unbuckled his seat belt.
“Sungmin, please don’t tell me you’re thinking of robbing the place,” Shindong deadpanned. “I thought we established that robbing a 7-Eleven would be too much of a cliché.”
“Please,” laughed Sungmin. “Don’t you think I’m a little too classy to be robbing a place like this? No, I’m just going to pay that kid a little visit.” He opened the car door, glancing back at Shindong. “Want to come? It should be fun.”
Shindong rolled his eyes. “Don’t get me involved in this, Min. Get your butt back in here.”
Sungmin got out of the car and slammed the door shut, bending down to the open window and saluting Shindong jauntily. “Don’t worry. I’m just going to mess with him a bit. Go home. I’ll walk after I’m done.”
“Suit yourself, but if you get caught, I’m not going to bail you out unless you pay for at least a vacation to Fiji,” Shindong warned as he shifted over to the driver’s seat.
“Nice to know I’m worth less than some bikini-clad girls,” joked Sungmin. “You’re a real pal, you know.” Shindong merely grunted and shifted the gear to drive. Sungmin turned around as the black car peeled off and out of sight. He walked briskly across the parking lot towards the store, loose asphalt crunching beneath his boots.
Getting into the store undetected was a piece of cake; the clerk was completely involved in the conversation with the person on the other line. Sungmin smiled faintly at the side of the conversation he could hear.
“And then he stepped on the floor that I just mopped, completely disregarding the sign I put up, and next thing I know, he goes whoosh into a shelf. Of course, I had to clean it all up later, but his expression was totally worth the extra work. I mean, really, what does he expect to happen if he steps on wet tile?” There was a pause as the brunette clerk fiddled with the nametag on the front of the ugly orange polo that identified him as an employee.
“What? No, I did not call you just to tell you that. Actually, I was getting hungry and was wondering if you could bring me food.” There was another pause. “I’m not forcing you to, you stingy miser.” The brunette made an indignant noise. “I will not mope if you don’t. What are you talking about?”
Sungmin bit his lip to stop himself from laughing as the brunette was clearly sulking already.
The clerk suddenly perked up and did a small victory dance. “Really? You better bring me my favorite. Haha, because you love me.” He turned slightly so that Sungmin could see a silly smile gracing his lips. “You know you do, shut up.” Suddenly, a soft look spread across his face, one that made Sungmin’s heart skip a beat. “I love you too, idiot. Drive safely.”
The brunette hung up and put the phone in his pocket, turning back to the cash register while humming some love song Sungmin vaguely remembered hearing on the radio. He was restacking the pile of cups on the counter when he finally noticed Sungmin’s presence.
“Oh, hi, welcome to 7-Eleven. I’m Donghae, how can I help you today?” the brunette said in one breath, a brilliant smile on his lips as he finally faced Sungmin.
Sungmin was temporarily surprised as he noticed that Donghae was a lot younger than he first thought, much too young to be working the night shift in a convenience store. There were shadows of bags under his eyes despite his obvious young age and a slight weariness in the way he held himself, like he had not been getting enough sleep. Even so, his smile was genuine, and there was a captivating sparkle in his eyes that Sungmin could not put a name to.
“Nothing,” replied Sungmin casually, casting his eyes around the store. “I’m just looking.”
“Well, if you need any help, let me know,” said Donghae, flashing him another smile.
Sungmin nodded at him and made his way to the giant refrigerators at the very back of the store, pretending to look at the selection of soft drinks offered there. Looking at the other shelves conveniently blocking all else from view, Sungmin smiled to himself. Perfect.
“Donghae-shii,” Sungmin called. “Could you come here for a moment?”
“Coming!” After a couple of seconds, the brunette appeared next to Sungmin. “Yes?”
Sungmin pointed into the refrigerator. “Look at that.”
Donghae obediently peered through the doors. “What?”
Sungmin immediately slammed his hands on the glass on either side of Donghae’s head, forming a cage with his arms.
Donghae started and turned his back on the drinks to face Sungmin, wearing a suspicious expression. “What are you-”
Before he could finish the question, Sungmin swooped in and kissed him. The brunette let out a surprised gasp at the sudden lip contact. Taking advantage of the momentary confusion, Sungmin slipped his tongue into the other’s mouth, languidly exploring the new territory. As he went deeper, Donghae let out an odd growling noise. That was all the warning Sungmin got before a set of teeth clamped down on his tongue.
Sungmin recoiled, hissing at the throbbing pain. “What the heck was that?” snapped Sungmin, irritated.
“I should be asking you that question!” Donghae shot back hotly, glaring as he dragged the heel of his palm across his lips. “Who just randomly kisses a person out of nowhere?” Sungmin rolled his eyes and tried to think of a snappy retort. Failing miserably, he just went in for another kiss.
Had Sungmin not been trained in martial arts, he would have been in a world of pain at that moment because Donghae’s fist shot out, aiming for nothing less than Sungmin’s groin. Reacting reflexively, Sungmin caught the hand before it could do any damage to his family jewels and twisted it painfully behind Donghae’s back before slamming the younger against the refrigerator once more, eliciting a pained cry from the other. “Feisty,” murmured Sungmin, using his free hand to trace Donghae’s jawline. “I like that.”
Sungmin took in Donghae’s teary yet defiant eyes before claiming his lips once more. Donghae’s lips were stubbornly pressed together in a thin line this time. Sungmin bit the bottom lip as he simultaneously twisted the arm he still held captive a bit more, loosening Donghae’s lips up enough for Sungmin to force his tongue in.
Donghae tasted like strawberry, Sungmin decided as he tried to engage Donghae’s tongue while keeping the younger from struggling. And saliva, of course, but mostly strawberry. Strawberry flavored gum. Sungmin was always more of a tangerine person, but there was something about the younger’s taste that was so very addicting to him.
At some point, Donghae had stopped struggling, but his body remained tense, and he started making soft whimpering noises in the back of his throat. Sungmin realized that he probably twisted the brunette’s arm a bit too far and let go, feeling slightly guilty. He stroked Donghae’s cheek with his thumb soothingly before capturing his tongue with his own.
Pressing his body against the other’s lithe form, Sungmin sucked harder on Donghae’s tongue, reluctant to let go of his hard-won prize. The hand that was formerly holding Donghae’s arm snaked downwards and slipped under the rough material of the polo, fingers making contact with warm skin. Sungmin was pleasantly surprised when Donghae moaned quietly as his hand brushed over the younger’s stomach, feeling the slight muscles present there. Emboldened by his success, Sungmin renewed the kiss with more vigor and skimmed his fingertips over Donghae’s ribcage as they moved higher still.
“Donghae!” an unfamiliar voice called from the front of the store.
Immediately, Donghae jerked away from Sungmin with a gasp. “Hyukjae,” he whispered, eyes going wide. “Oh my god, Hyukjae.”
“Shh,” Sungmin shushed him, putting a hand over Donghae’s mouth to keep him quiet. Donghae tried to shake the hand off, but accidentally banged his head on the glass door behind him, making a loud thump.
“Donghae?” Footsteps made their way towards them slowly. “Are you there?”
“One more for the road then, eh?” Sungmin murmured, and before Donghae could react, Sungmin planted a chaste kiss on his lips. Sungmin drew back and took a moment to admire his handiwork, filing the picture away for future reference. The brunette’s hair was tousled and his shirt was rumpled, almost like he just got out of bed. His lips were slightly swollen from the rough kissing and his cheeks were flushed. “Good bye, Donghae,” Sungmin whispered, gazing into the fiery brown eyes one last time before slipping away.
“Oh, there you are,” Sungmin heard the other man say. “What are you doing back here?”
Unable to resist his growing curiosity, Sungmin peeked back. The man Donghae had called Hyukjae was a skinny redhead, not much older than Donghae, who rather resembled a monkey. Sungmin frowned. He did not see what Donghae saw in this man.
“I brought the food you requested,” Hyukjae was saying. “You should hurry and eat it before it gets cold.” Evidently realizing that Donghae was not responding, Hyukjae bent down to look at Donghae’s face. “Hae?” Unexpectedly, Donghae lunged forward and caught Hyukjae in a tight hug, burying his face in the crook of his neck. Concern overtook Hyukjae’s expression. “Are you okay?” he asked, arms settling around the other protectively.
“Yeah,” Donghae said, voice audible albeit muffled by Hyukjae’s coat. “Hyuk?”
“Yes?”
“I need more strawberry gum.”
The worried look on the redhead’s face morphed to one of confusion. “What? Can’t you just get it from the counter?”
“Can you get it for me?”
The perplexity did not leave Hyukjae’s expression, but he assented, “Okay. Next to the cash register, right?”
Sungmin, deciding that he had seen enough, discretely exited through the front door, taking care not to make any noise. Walking away from the store, Sungmin smiled and opened his hand to reveal the nametag that he managed to swipe.
“Donghae, huh?” Sungmin mused, eyes sweeping over the name engraved on the small rectangle. He brought the tag up and pressed his lips lightly against the cold metal before slipping it into his pocket. Whistling a love song he vaguely remembered hearing on the radio, Sungmin stuffed his hands in his coat and made his way towards home.
