Summary: Hyunseung is having a bad day when he's saved by an old friend
Notes: This was a birthday present I wrote for a friend. She wanted someone being saved by an old friend who said 'get in the car'.
It's pouring down with rain and Hyunseung's luck seems to have run out. His boss messed up his files, he'd forgotten his wallet and he had stepped out into the pouring rain only to find his umbrella had a mysterious hole that hadn't been there that morning. He was running low on energy, white oxford shirt clinging to his skin and with every sluggish step the world seemed that little bit darker. It didn't help that he'd be returning home to an empty apartment with no-one to greet him but his pet rock Seulong and a dying cactus plant. It was times like these, when he was miserable and down trodden that he remembered the good times.
The good times were those spent with his best friend Junhyung who always seemed to hang around his apartment and rearrange his things without him realising it. On Monday his Cd's would be arranged alphabetically by artist, Tuesday they'd be arranged by the year the album was released and by Friday they'd be organised alphabetically in to genre. Junhyung would nag him when his fridge was running low, when his hair was getting too long and when he was too thin. He nagged about his plants dying and his choice in fashion - Junhyung may have disliked his baggy three-quarter lengths but Hyunseung had a whole list of hideous items he'd seen lurking in Junhyung's closet. But for every time the younger boy nagged, there would be a warm hug, a body spread across his couch with free pizza or tickets to the latest film Hyunseung wanted to see. Junhyung could nag his ear off but he listened with the same intent.
On any other rainy day like this, Junhyung would have met him from work with a large umbrella and even larger smile, somehow knowing that Hyunseung was having a bad day. He'd have grinned like an idiot, showing gleaming teeth with a crazy idea for something to do that would undoubtedly take Hyunseung's mind off things. But Hyunseung's bad luck had started quite some time ago and Junhyung had met his perfect match in a slender boy with long blonde hair and a pretty face. The resemblance had been outstanding between this stranger and Hyunseung, even Kikwang had mistaken them upon first glance but Junhyung was happy and so Hyunseung. Or at least they had been.
This new beau of Junhyung had been aware - painfully aware - of the strong bond between Junhyung and Hyunseung, or perhaps it was an awareness of how alike they looked. Hyunseung was happy for Junhyung, really, he was - his didn't miss him when he was out on dates and not hogging his sofa and he certainly didn't frown when his DVD collection didn't change order for two weeks and he was able to easily pick out the DVD he felt like watching. He still put a DVD back in the wrong place to annoy Junhyung, even though it annoyed him less with each visit till there wasn't enough time for Junhyung to finish a film, let alone organise his things. Ultimately, it came for Junhyung to choose between love and friendship.
He didn't choose friendship.
Hyunseung is huddled beneath a plastic bus shelter. The wind beating rain against his face, the bus shelter is positioned completely wrong. His ipod died five minutes ago but there's a strange man lurking a little too close for Hyunseung's comfort. His hand momentarily brushes Hyunseung from time to time, cool knuckles grazing against his thigh, the back of his hand. Hyunseung steps away, the subtle shifting of his feet but for every inch Hyunseung moves away, the stranger seems to step two closer.
A loud crack of thunder makes them both jump and somehow Hyunseung finds himself pulled to the stranger's chest. He smells of alcohol and stale armpits, the smell becoming more and more unbearable by the minute. Hyunseung struggles against a strong arm, face pressed to the cotton of a stained winter coat. The man's free hand ghosts over the back of his thigh and he squirms away as it slowly inches up. 'You're a pretty young thing' The man slurs in his ear, fingers brushing the seat of his jeans. Hyunseung jerks, arching slightly in the other's hold and he finds himself trapped against a poster of Lee Seung Gi. 'I'm not a girl' He growls as the hand fits over his back pocket, his body trapped to the side of the shelter by the other's. There's a gruff noise in his ear, somewhere between a chuckle and a cough. The stranger's breath is incredibly warm against the shell of his ear and he can't help but think that if Junhyung were here .... 'I'm not a girl' He growls again as he presses his hand's to the man's torso. He gives a good shove but the man's strength seems to have increased ten fold with the alcohol.
There's a screeching of tyres, too light for a bus and the man jumps away, if only for a moment. His hands return, sliding to Hyunseung's hips and he's about to punch this bastard in the face when someone else beats him to it. 'Get in the car, Boo' The voice is all too familiar, even over the pounding rain and Hyunseung's feet are already carrying him into the equally familiar lime green fiesta. Behind him there's a scuffle, sneakers squeaking across wet cement, a body hitting the floor. He stumbles away from them, almost trips over the curb, and he lets out a sigh of relief as he slips into the car.
It's dry inside and the warmth from the air conditioning almost makes him purr. Junhyung's car still smells of cherries and mint just as it used to. He's vaguely aware of the aching in his chest, the nickname he's not heard in so long echoing inside his skull and he does a good job at ignoring it until Junhyung slides into the car.
It feels like the temperature has suddenly dropped 10 degrees and Junhyung looks over at him for a moment with a disapproving stare before reaching under his seat. Probably looking for a towel. Hyunseung thinks, only moments before one is thrown in his face. He begins to dry himself off as Junhyung buckles himself in, checking the mirrors. Junhyung clicks his tongue in disappointment and fixes him with another heated stare only moments later. 'What?' Hyunseung lets the towel drop from his head, landing in a wet heap on his lap. They stare at each other, Hyunseung's face slowly turning red and his paranoia increases until Junhyung reaches across and buckles him in. If Junhyung is aware how close the action brings their faces, he doesn't show it.
They reach the fresh crisp air and rolling green fields of the countryside before either talks again. Hyunseung is too busy trying to warm his numb toes, waiting for the oncoming assault of nagging. Junhyung doesn't disappoint. 'Yah! What were you doing out there without an umbrella? And why were you by yourself? If I hadn't of been nearby who knows what that creep could have done to you.. It's because of your hair. You need to cut it again. How can you even see through all that hair? I swear, if you don't go to hairdressers soon, I'm going to cut it for you' Hyunseung sits quietly as Junhyung turns his attention between him and the road. They swerve once or twice, Hyunseung lurching forwards to correct the wheel. Their hands brush once or twice and he feels his face getting redder by the second. 'Would you keep your eyes on the road?' Hyunseung manages to direct the car away from yet another crash when Junhyung curls a warm hand around his bicep, scorching him through the thin material of his shirt.
'How can you protect yourselves with arms like these? So scrawny-' Junhyung is cut off as Hyunseung bats his hand away. 'Pull over' The brunette growls, folding his arms over his chest. 'What?' The younger looks at him. 'Jun, let me out. I'm walking' Hyunseung stares at him expectantly, folding his arms tightly over his chest. Junhyung laughs for a few moments, the sound spluttering like a dying lawn mower when he realises Hyunseung is deadly serious.'You've got to be kidding me! We're miles from the city and it's still raining. You'll get a flu' It's getting late and the skies are rapidly darkening above them. Walking is not an option.
'Fine' Junhyung navigates the car into an empty country road, the pair lapsing into silence. Hyunseung sways slightly in his seat, the gravel crunching beneath them and he takes to staring out the window at green scenery until Junhyung pulls under a canopy of trees. Hyunseung is out of the car before Junhyung has even turned off the engine. The air is clean and crisp, the shift in temperature hitting him like a ton of bricks. Junhyung strays after him, kicking up dew from errant blades of grass and they wander the damp earth together. The canopy of branches keeps them relatively dry.
'I've missed you' Junhyung says when it become apparent that the silence won't fill it's self. His knuckles brush Hyunseung's and he glances at the fair-haired boy. Hyunseung's back is to him, barely a foot ahead of him. His hair has gotten long again, framing his face in waves and Junhyung wonders if he's visiting a wood nymph. 'Yoseob told me you moved out to the countryside together. Wasn't that what you always wanted?' Like a sulking child, Hyunseung stares at the trees instead of Junhyung and gnaws at his lip.
The younger of the pair chuckles at his hyung's words, stepping a little closer towards him. 'Yeah, I did' Behind Hyunseung's back, his hand reaches up, fingers curling as if to grab Hyunseung by the back of his shirt. It drops to his side and he releases a sigh as Hyunseung winds their path around a broad tree. 'But I realised it wasn't where I was that mattered' There's a pause in Hyunseung's movements and a twig snaps loudly under his foot. The air around them feels suddenly much heavier, Hyunseung's heart beating a mile an hour. 'What - What is it that matters then, Junhyung? Because I thought we were friends'
Junhyung grabs Hyunseung by the shoulders, pinning him squarely against the bark of the tree with a low growl that rumbles in the back of his throat. 'You. You're what matters to me. I tried to ignore the way my heart pounds when you look at me, the way I always want to kiss you. I tried dating someone who looks like you and it was ok because I still had you but- ' Junhyung pauses, taking in the wide-eyed doe look that Hyunseung unwitting;y gives him. 'God, don't look at me like that. It makes me want to kiss you' Junhyung's eyes fixate on slender lips but he steps back, releasing his grip on Hyunseung.
Hyunseung - who is replaying Junhyung's words in his head, lurches forwards, hands curling into Junhyung's hair. He smashes their lips together, noses crunching and Junhyung responds instantly. They fall back against the tree, sliding lips and hot tongues. Hyunseung cradles Junhyung's head in his palms as though it's the most precious thing in the world. Junhyung's hands tug at his shirt, untucking it from his plain black pants. Hyunseung purrs into the kiss as Junhyung strokes up his spine.
